Lightening Facts

Lightning Facts - Did you know?

  • Lightning often strikes the same place repeatedly, especially if it's a tall, pointy, isolated object.
  • Most cars are safe from lightning, but it is the metal roof and metal sides that protect you, NOT the rubber tires.
  • A house is a safe place to be during a thunderstorm as long as you avoid anything that conducts electricity.
  • Height, pointy shape, and isolation are the dominant factors controlling where a lightning bolt will strike. The presence of metal makes absolutely no difference on where lightning strikes.
For more information on lightening safety visit the NOAA lightning page.  For thunderstorm safety tips visit the  http://www.ready.gov/thunderstorms-lightning
Reminder to Residents re: Yard Clean-up Debris
Please containerize your yard debris and take it to the Village's compost site at the Department of Public Works on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The Department of Public Works DOES NOT collect summer yard clean-up debris curbside.  Please follow these simple rules and help keep our community clean:
  • Do not place yard waste in the street or curbside.
  • Do not direct grass clippings into the street when mowing the lawn, or blow debris into the street with your leaf blower.
Also, with the warm weather comes more walkers - people and pets.  Please be mindful of your neighbors and be sure to clean up pet waste immediately after deposit.  This is a Village Ordinance and fines could result for failure to clean up after your pet.
