Disaster Preparation

Tornado3If a disaster struck your neighborhood, you would only have seconds or minutes to react. Is that enough time to find your homeowners insurance policy, bank account information, or backup your financial software?

These 4 steps can help you financially prepare for a disaster.

COMMUNITY PREPAREDNESS - Attend this local community event Saturday, May 4th and make sure your family is prepared!

Visit the USA.Gov Mobile Apps Gallery to find government apps and mobile websites.

Get your family and home ready for a tornado with the official Tornado App from the American Red Cross.

The Tornado Awareness App puts everything you need to know to prepare for a tornado in the palm of your hand. It also sounds an alarm when NOAA issues a tornado warning for your location, even when the app is closed.

Learn more about the Tornado App and download it now

You can search for apps by category (Education, Health, Business, etc.) or by platform (Android, Apple, Blackberry, etc.).  Currently, all the apps featured in the gallery are free, though charges from your mobile phone carrier may apply.

Distracted Driving
In most states, you can be pulled over and ticketed for texting while driving.  Some states also ban handheld cell phone use.  Look up the laws in your state and wherever you plan to drive.

Any activity that distracts a driver can lead to a serious accident.  Other common distractions include eating and drinking, grooming, reading maps/directions, adjusting the radio, and more.  These activities may seem harmless, but the fact is that hundreds of thousands of people in the U.S. are killed or injured every year as a result of distracted driving.

What can you do?  Concentrate on driving when you're behind the wheel--it's not the time for multi-tasking.

Visit Distraction.gov to get more information about distracted driving.
