The Village is monitoring the Milwaukee River. All pertinent information concerning the water level will be posted on the Village Website Home Page.
Flooding can occur in almost every part of the U.S. and during any month. In 2012, 39 percent of flood fatalities occurred from driving into flood water and 18 percent from walking into it. If you're driving or walking and encounter flood water, turn around. Don't drown.
It only takes six inches of water to knock over an adult and cause loss of control of a vehicle. A foot of water will float many vehicles and only two feet of rushing water will carry them away, including pickups and SUVs.
The depth of flood water is not always obvious. It can be especially hard to judge at night. The best option is to play it safe and turn around.
Find out what you can do to keep your family safe before, during, and after floods.
Storm Water Discharge
The Village of Saukville is regulated by permit under the Wisconsin DNR for storm water discharges to the Milwaukee River watershed via Village owned storm sewers. The permit requires that the Village control its discharges by monitoring for illegal discharges, reducing sediment and pollutant loading, and minimizing total runoff to the extent possible to mitigate flooding during snow melt and rainfall events. Residents are reminded that they can contribute to the effort to reduce pollution of the river by not placing their yard waste and grass clippings in the road and by cleaning up spills of anti-freeze and oil from leaking vehicles. |

Tornado and Severe Weather Awareness Week is a good time to go over the plans you have made to ensure the safety of your family when severe weather strikes. Be prepared.
A Statewide Tornado Drill is planned for Thursday, April 18, 2013.
A mock tornado watch will be issued statewide by the National Weather Service at 1:00 p.m. followed by a statewide tornado warning at 1:45 p.m. If there is a threat of severe weather in Wisconsin on Thursday, the drill will be postponed until Friday, April 19, 2013. The drill will go on in all other conditions including non-severe weather (clouds, rain, dark sky, scattered thunderstorms, etc.). If severe weather occurs on Friday, the drill will be cancelled. |

Fire Hydrant Flushing in the Village - Weekdays, April 15th through April 25th between 8:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. There may be some discoloration in your water during this process. This is iron and is not harmful. We recommend that you do not do laundry if your water is discolored. If you forget and your clothes have a reddish appearance, DO NOT DRY THE LAUNDRY; rather rewash in cold water to remove the discoloration. Run your taps for a short period after flushing in your area is completed to clear your lines. If you have questions, please contact the Water Utility at 284-3185 or Village Hall at 284-9423.

Cross Connection Program Resumes
| |
The Village's Cross Connection Inspection Program has resumed for 2013.
In order to reduce overall costs for compliance with DNR Regulation NR810.15, the Village of Saukville Water Utility has contracted with Hydro Designs, Inc. (HDI) to assist in managing our Cross Connection Control Program. HDI will again be sending postal notices and begin to perform initial inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings throughout the Village to detect actual and potential cross connections and make recommendations for the installation of backflow prevention devices where necessary. Find more information on the Utility Services page of our website.
