Snow Plow Safety
snowplowPlease treat snowplow crews with courtesy and caution.  Keeping clear of the plowing operation allows plow operators to do their job quickly and efficiently.  Following these simple guidelines can greatly assist the plowing crew:

  - Do not park on the street if you see a plow approaching.

  - Do not pull out in front of a plow at the last second.
  - Keep at least 300 feet of distance from the rear of a plow as it may stop or back up
    without warning.
Preparing for Winter

WINTER STORMS and EXTREME COLD

Winter weather is upon us.  Are you prepared for the winter storms that will be visiting us over the next several months?  Now is the time to take a look at your emergency planning.  Check the contents of your emergency kits, replace items that were used or outdated, and check vehicles to ensure they are ready for the abuse winter weather will throw at them.

Have your furnace inspected.  When was the last time you had the fireplace chimney checked and cleaned?  Do you have a carbon monoxide detector installed?  When did you last replace the batteries in it or your smoke detectors?

Review your family emergency plan.  Is it up to date; are the contact numbers current; do you have them programmed in all your phones?  When was the last time you sat down and went over your plan with family members?

Additional winter safety tips can be found at  www.weather.gov or http://emergencymanagement.wi.gov

More weather tips and how to put together a winter emergency kit are available at the ReadyWisconsin website (readywisconsin.wi.gov).  In addition, there are numerous winter storm maps and a history of Wisconsin's winter weather produced by the National Weather Service.   For complete info,   go to:        http://ready.wi.gov/winter/docs/Winter_Awareness_Media_Packet2012.pdf

ReadyWisconsin will air Television and Radio Public Service Announcements in November, urging viewers and listeners to keep an emergency kit in their vehicles.  Wisconsin residents are also encouraged to sign up for a chance to win a winter survival kit on the ReadyWisconsin website: readywisconsin.wi.gov.  Share your winter survival story on Facebook for another chance to win: www.facebook.com/readywisconsin.
