Residents and officials from Port Washington and Saukville gathered at Niederkorn Library in Port Washington on October 15th to celebrate the 7th year of the Character Counts program and honor three people for demonstrating the tenets of the initiative - trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship. Receiving Character Counts recognition awards were Tami Wojciechowski (front left), an active volunteer in the Port schools; Joann Wiesner (front right), a retired Port-Saukville School District librarian and longtime member of Saukville's Oscar Grady Library Board; and Richard Thomas (middle, standing), the former Port Washington Police Chief who proposed the Character Counts initiative.

Fall is Furnace Tune Up Time

Before winter closes in, now is the time to have your furnace tuned up and prepared for Winter.
Doing so will reap a number of benefits:
* Change out dirty air filters that can lower air quality .
* Ensure it is operating to its optimal efficiency given high fuel costs.
* Check for exhaust leaks that could lead to deadly carbon monoxide poisoning (the "silent killer").
* Check for fire related hazards such as leaking fuel delivery lines.
* Check thermostat operation to make sure maximum comfort is being delivered.
Homes with fireplaces or free standing heating stoves should also have their chimneys cleaned and inspected so that there is no blockage due to animal activity, soot accumulation, or vegetative debris. Many heating service providers offer fall tune-up and inspection specials. Take advantage of these offers. Your budget, home, and even your life may be in the balance.
Be wise and be safe. |
Cross Connection Inspections
In order to reduce overall costs for compliance with Wisconsin DNR Regulation NR810.15, the Village of Saukville Water Utility has contracted with Hydro Designs, Inc. (HDI), of New Berlin to assist in managing our Cross Connection Control program as required by the State of Wisconsin.
What Is a Cross Connection?
A cross connection is a direct or potential connection between any part of the public water supply system and a source of contamination or pollution. The most common form of cross connection is a garden hose, which is easily connected to the public water supply system and can be used to apply a variety of potentially dangerous substances, including chemicals and fertilizer. Other common cross connections include dishwashers, toilets, pressure washers, boilers, pools, and lawn sprinkler systems.
HDI is sending postal notices and has begun initial inspections of residential, commercial, and industrial buildings throughout the Village to detect actual and potential cross connections and make recommendations for the installation of backflow prevention devices or assemblies where necessary. This will help ensure that contaminated or polluted water cannot backflow into clean drinking water. There is no cost for the inspection and each inspection takes less than 45 minutes on average for a business and less than 20 minutes for a home inspection. |
