Happy Valentine's Day!

Greetings!

This February issue of our e-newsletter is jam packed with wonderful stories about the people who are involved with Boys & Girls Clubs. While we often talk about and highlight the programs that we run, it is important to stop occasionally and recognize the tremendous efforts of the people who choose to remain involved with Boys & Girls Clubs. We are so fortunate that people like Bob Harman, Talia Ingram, Mike O'Brien and Kruz are all part of the team. We sincerely hope that you enjoy sharing in the successes of those who dedicate themselves to this great organization, as we plan to share more stories in future editions of our e-newsletter.

What's New?

Congratulations to Bob Harman!

We are very proud of long-time supporter and board member Bob Harman. Although we have long appreciated Bob's hard work and dedication to Boys & Girls Clubs here in Greater Victoria, we are thrilled to see a wide recognition of his contributions. In the fall of 2012, Bob was awarded the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Medal, and later this month he will accept the Leadership Victoria Lifetime Achievement Award at the Victoria Leadership Awards event at the Fairmont Empress Hotel. Congratulations Bob! You are more than deserving of these accolades, and we are lucky to have your support. To read some recent articles about Bob, click here

Boys & Girls staff member Kruz receives Mayor's Award

Congratulations to Boys & Girls Club staff member Kruz who received the View Royal Mayor's Award in December! Kruz runs numerous programs for our Community Clubs, and the Social Club at the Shoreline Community School. This summer, at the Esquimalt Baseball's closing ceremonies, he and another community member saved the life of Mr. Moerke by performing CPR until emergency personnel arrived. We are proud to have Kruz as part of the Boys & Girls Club team, and congratulate him on this honour. Visit our Media Room to read an article from the Goldstream Gazette.

CIBC Wood Gundy Miracle Day Donation

One of our Foundation Board members, Michael O'Brien, is a First Vice President at CIBC Wood Gundy and he donated $25,000 as part of 2012's Miracle Day. That amount was matched by CIBC Wood Gundy for a total contribution of $50,000! With these funds we have established separate endowment fund that will provide support for youth and families for program fees. We have never before had a specific pot of money for this and often when we needed to help a family or youth in this way we robbed Peter to pay Paul. Now, with some judicious investment, we will be able to answer this need. Thank you Mike and CIBC Wood Gundy - this truly is a miracle for us!

Talia Ingram - Central Saanich Club Coordinator

Talia Ingram, Coordinator of our Central Saanich club, has been exceedingly busy these past few years. Through her hard work and dedication, we have seen the club nearly triple in reach in just three years. During the 2010/2011 school year, we had 58 children and youth accessing our programs, today we are happy to report that our programs serve over 170 kids! We truly have become "the" place to be after school for kids in the Brentwood Bay area...
