It's done. For those of you who have been following Stevie the crocodile's progress, I have a special no-calorie treat for this Halloween week. Above is a link to a time-lapse movie of the making of the quilt. In two and a half minutes you'll watch her progress from pencil-sketch on flannel to finished piece--almost 22 feet long by 6 feet tall. In real-time, the process began in January of 2014 and ended earlier this month. You'll also see my studio in all its creative clutter, with heaps of fabric, tulle, and scraps. You may also notice visitors: Djinni the cat and Kali the dog make cameos, as do my mom and dad. My husband Tom appears, adding an extension onto my pinning wall, taking a nap, and even helping me glue fabric edges. Currently, Stevie is being shown (along with my rhino quilt, "Tickled Pink") in the animal inspired art quilt exhibit, "From Insects to Elephants", at the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts until January 10, 2016. See her there if you can! I'll be visiting the exhibit myself on December 10th for a slide show on the making of the crocodile plus a showing of a few more quilts. After that Stevie (a saltwater croc) will accompany me to her homeland when I teach at the AQC in Melbourne, Australia in April. You may also enjoy a visit my website, www.susancarlson.com, where I have posted detail photos and other images of "Crocodylus Smylus."
