The Given Land is a novel written by my husband, which was inspired by our family's trip to New Zealand. When predators invade their island home, the bird heroes of the Given Land are forced to fight for their existence. Geared to young adult readers (aka our son, Sam), it will appeal to adults as well. Hello and a Happy New Year!
We have a nice batch of snow on the ground here in Maine-better than the mud alternative! Life has been busy enough, and the weather frigid enough, to deter venturing out for some cross-country skiing, but I really should make the time to do so.
As I look back on the past year, I find myself thankful for many things. I'm blessed with a wonderful and creative job in life and the opportunity to share it with you-either through this newsletter, my website, books, or teaching. Thank you for that. I travel to great locations to teach, and I meet lovely people everywhere I go.
As 2013 unfolds, I have much to look forward to: a new studio! (see below), hometown retreats, travels and teaching-including a trip to glorious New Zealand in July, quilts and creations that need to be made, walks with the dog, and time with my loved ones.
My best wishes to you for a warm, happy, and healthy New Year to come! --Susan |

Goodbye to the Yurt
In a year of changes, one of the biggest was saying farewell to my yurt studio. This wonderful space has been my work home for 12 years. But age sneaks up on us all, and the yurt wasn't getting any younger, so when it needed some major maintenance (like new outside coverings), we decided to take it down and build a new studio. However, "Yurtyl", has found a new lease on life and will become a year-round home on an organic farm in VT.
Browse an album of photos of the yurt through the years on my website. Also check back later for more pictures of the new studio as it progresses. |
