 September 2013
schooldays-collage-header.jpg
School has started along with after school activities: Sports, Clubs, Scouts, Church activities, etc. As usual, September has turned on the heat. Remember, stay hydrated, stay in the shade, restrict strenuous outdoor activities and pay attention to your health.

We also notice and increase in traffic in our community while parents drive their children to and from school and activities. Please watch your speed, especially around the schools. A momentary loss of control can create significant consequences.

If your High schooler is driving, please have the hard discussions about their driving habits and safety. And if they are going to a party, please give them options  should they decide to use drugs or alcohol.  There was an accident last night in Anaheim Hills resulting in one fatality and three hospitalizations. There seems to have been open containers of alcohol in the car. This accident was avoidable.

The OC Sheriff Department held a seminar on Emerging Drug Trends. For a synopsis of their presentation, you can view it at:

Interact is a club for youth ages 12-18 who want to connect with others in their community or school. Interact club members have fun while carrying out service projects and learning about the world. Interact clubs organize at least two service projects a year: one that benefits their community and one that encourages international understanding. While Interact clubs receive guidance from individual Rotary clubs, they govern and support themselves.

Help Support Team Lollipop!
Kaylie

Anna

Team Lollipop and Kaylie are looking for your support.  On October 13th, thousands of CHOC supporters will walk through the Disneyland resort at the 23rd Annual Choc Walk in the Park. Last year, over 15,000 participants raised over $2 million to help support the care, services, education and research that CHOC provides children. "Team Lollipop" is a small group of family and friends that will be joining the walk this year with Anna (6 years old) and in support of Kaylie (11 years old)  Both girls have been receiving great medical care from CHOC and want to help pass it on to others in need.

These little ones are Yorba Linda residents. For more of this story, go to: http://www.horton4yl.com/community-events/team-lollipop/

Flag Raising at Veterans Park
Did you know, EVERY Saturday Morning at 9 am, a group of Veteran's raise and lower our Flag? This is done in observance of all who have served in the past and who are currently serving today in our Armed Services. Come out to Veterans Park on a Saturday afternoon to participate in this patriotic ceremony. Bring the kids so they can speak to these Veterans about their experiences and what they continue to do to support our military personnel.

Yorba Linda Neighborhood Watch

The Yorba Linda Police Chief, Lt Wren has recently reflected on the significant decrease of home burglaries in our community since the beginning of the year. Much of the credit is due to our own community members observation and notifying the Sheriff department of the problem. Most recently, a home invasion robbery was thwarted by an observant neighbor and the quick and determined  action of our Police Department.

Neighborhood Watch programs are an integral part of keeping our community safe. You get to know your neighbors and become aware of what to look for and see that may seem out of the ordinary. Early reporting is key to keeping our community safe.

To form or join a Neighborhood Watch program in your neighborhood, contact the Orange County Sheriff, Yorba Linda Sub Station at:
 (714) 779-7098.

We are all our first defense in defending our family, neighbors and our community.
