... The Class of 2015!
Notre Dame's 55th graduation ceremony, honoring the Class of 2015, was held on Friday, May 29 before a crowd of over 1,200 family and friends. Diplomas were awarded to 95 graduates, representing 22 area cities and towns, in addition to China and South Korea. Students were awarded a total of $13,968,856 in scholarships and grants for college, and 95% of the class will be pursing higher education in the fall. Students Run Field Day for Elementary School
On Friday, May 29, 50 students travelled with Miss Medoff and Mr. St. Onge to Tisdale Elementary School in Bridgeport to help run the events for their annual field day.  It was a beautiful day outside and the gym teacher who ran the program congratulated ND by saying that both the students and teachers raved about their high school facilitators who taught them not only how to play each game but also about sportsmanship, fairness, enthusiasm and friendship.

One School, One Book

You may have heard of the One Town, One Book initiative that many local libraries have promoted over the last few years. This summer we are launching our own One School, One Book campaign to encourage conversations and develop our mission. The goal of this campaign is to get as many members of the Notre Dame community (students, parents, teachers, even alumni) to read a book that relates to our mission of building character, faith, and intellect.

In this book, Mitch Albom (author of Tuesdays with Morrie) writes about two men of faith. One is his childhood rabbi, a man of wit and grace who has asked Mitch to give his eulogy.  The other is a Christian pastor with a troubled past and mission to serve the homeless.  While the author gets to know these two men, he begins to think about his own faith.

Summer Reading List 2015

In addition to the One School, One Book: Have a Little Faith by Mitch Albom:

Honors and High Honors

Additionally, students in Honors and High Honors English classes will have to choose a work of fiction or nonfiction that explores character, faith, or intellect. Some suggested titles are included below, but students may choose another comparable book. The American Library Association YALSA awards is a great place to look for titles (http://www.ala.org/yalsa/booklistsawards/bookawards). We encourage parents to work with students to find a book that is interesting and appropriate. Students will write an in-class essay on this choice during the first week of school.

Character

The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics by Daniel James Brown
Go Set a Watchman by Harper Lee (will be published on 7/14)

The Little Way of Ruthie Leming by Rod Dreher

All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr

The Invention of Wings by Sue Monk Kidd

Left to Tell: Discovering God Amidst the Rwandan Holocaust by Immaculée Ilibagiza

Computer Education Academy

Current sophomores and juniors are invited to apply for an exciting opportunity - the Computer Education Academy. CEA is a fun-filled active computing learning community for twenty 10th and 11th grade high school students. CEA will expose students to key computing concepts and basic computer programming through hands-on activities designed by the faculty at Fairfield University. Students will have an opportunity to learn and work in teams to develop actual computer applications at Fairfield University. The students will be guided by assistants and professors at Fairfield University to ensure a good connection with professional practice and actual applications of computational thinking. CEA is open to any 10th or 11th grade high school student. Support the Wrestling Team
ND wrestling finished their first year as a program and had a fantastic season. Since the program evolved shortly before the season started, there was not sufficient time to fundraise for a wrestling mat so one was borrowed from a neighboring school and hauled back and forth numerous times. Please help ND Wrestling grow as a program by donating any amount toward the purchase of a new mat. Click here to visit the team's Go Fund Me page.
