Students Attend League of Women Voters Symposium
On Friday, April 10, Eric Franco '16 and Emily Schofield '16 represented Notre Dame at the annual League of Women Voters Symposium on International Relations held at Yale University. This year, the theme of the 46th annual Symposium was "Climate Change: What Impact Can We Have Now?". Special thanks to the LWV of Fairfield for their assistance in allowing our students to attend this conference.

Environmental Science Class Creates Lasting Legacy
This year Mr. Salce's UConn ECE Environmental Science class celebrated Earth Day 2015 by planting a perennial garden. The project was conceived, designed and implemented by the class with a few design ideas provided by a local landscape architect. The students chose a location by the flagpole and a design that resembles a stream flowing down the hill toward the driveway. They chose plants that will either flower or maintain their foliage for most of the year. The class is composed mostly of graduating seniors. They wanted to beautify the area out by the flag and also create a lasting legacy to honor the ND spirit: the spirit of community, involvement and service. Students who were involved in the project were: Jae Min Ahn, Adonnis Andrade, Brendan Barger, Sidney Choothesa, Jessica LeMere, Edmond Niesen, Mario Nunes, Andres Rosales, Alejandro Rueda and Emily Wonsiewicz.

Spring Cleaning
On April 11, the first day of Spring Break, several ND students along with Mr. Sweeney, Miss Medoff, Debbie McDonagh (our Athletic Trainer and parent of students at St. James School) joined forces with parents of St. James School in Stratford for a Spring Cleaning service project.  They cleaned desks, washed walls, raked leaves and had fun doing it. Thanks to former ND faculty member and current principal of St. James, Pat Libero, for affording us this opportunity. Special thanks to Livia Silva '17, Liv Keden '17, Andres Rosales '15, Emma Sweeney '18, Morgan Sweeney '15 and Tyh McLean '18.

Spanish Classes Experience Spanish Cultures
ND's Spanish 4, Spanish 4 AP and Spanish 5 AP classes took part in a Spanish Cultural Experience on April 22. A block of the students' school day was set aside whereby students informed, demonstrated and participated in various cultural activities dealing with Spain. Our activities included sports, food, dance, literature, people, places and fashion, in short everything possible to live in a culture different from ours of the U.S. The day was informative, relevant, delicious and fun.
The Spanish 3 classes took virtual trips to different Spanish speaking countries via their "Folletos Turísticos" (travel brochures). Students were required to research a Spanish speaking country to find places of interest and use various grammatical structures along with necessary vocabulary previously learned for their brochures. Students followed up by presenting their "folletos" orally to the class.

Students Attend Performance at Yale
On Thursday, April 9, Dr. Callaghan's senior Humanities class attended a vibrant production of The Caucasian Chalk Circle at the Yale Repertory Theatre.  Written by the modern German playwright, Bertolt Brecht, and set in the remote Caucasus region of Russia, the play explores the challenges and consequences of 'doing the right thing.' The Singer muses that, "Terrible is the temptation to do good" and even though the action is set in a colorful, musical "once-upon-a-time," the play presents the choice of good over evil in the very real world.  The Caucasian Chalk Circle brings the Solomon story to energetic life, celebrating the triumph of the human spirit.

Support the Wrestling Team
ND wrestling just finished their first year as a program and had a fantastic season. Since the program evolved shortly before the season started, there was not sufficient time to fundraise for a wrestling mat so one was borrowed from a neighboring school and hauled back and forth numerous times. Please help ND Wrestling grow as a program by donating any amount toward the purchase of a new mat. Click here to visit the team's Go Fund Me page.
