April Vacation Hours...
The Main Office will be open from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm during April vacation. The next ND Update will be issued on Friday, April 24.
Congratulations to...
... Ashley Maitland '15 and Sam DeMattio '15 who were honored at the Connecticut Association of Schools Arts Banquet at the Aqua Turf in Southington on Monday evening. Both students were selected based upon their multi-year commitment to the arts at Notre Dame. Mrs. Hong and Mr. St. Onge represented the school at the banquet.
This Week at ND...
Spirit Week at ND
School spirit was in full force this week. Each day students dressed to a different theme: Throwback Tuesday, Wacky Wednesday, Tasteful Thursday and Color Wars Friday.
Sophomores decked out in red for color wars

Freshmen Hold Research Fair
Students in Mr. Wajda's freshmen science classes held a research fair on Friday, March 27. The students were required to create their own experiment and research a topic of their choice. They produced research posters about their work and presented their posters to classmates, just like at professional conferences. Great job done by all!

Speaker Addresses Student Body
On Wednesday, Mubarakah Ibrahim addressed the student body and discussed equality and the need to break down stereotypes in today's society, specially those towards women. Ibrahmin is an internationally recognized health and fitness expert, speaker, and businesswoman. She has appeared on the Oprah Winfrey Show and has met with President Obama at the White House. She lectures, promotes and conducts workshops on fitness and healthy living throughout the United States. She lives in New Haven and her talk helped to begin what will become an on-going dialogue among our students and staff.

Modern Language Department Update

French Classes

With the start of the 4th marking period and the end of this academic year in sight, Madame Zac's French classes (I, II, III) are continuing their studies of Parisian French grammar in addition to researching interesting information for their end-of-the-year Final French Projects.

French I students, in groups of two, will soon  be presenting interesting facts on French cities. The projects will be four-fold: an oral presentation, a "hands-on" project, a written report with corresponding note cards, and a visual.

French II classes are designing children's books as their final French Project. Each student is currently writing a story line that will be written in French, will have corresponding pictures, and will be "bound!"

Having already made their passports, French III students are now researching the finest of details for their Passion Trip ... to "wherever"! From finding the right airline and flight to "purchasing" round trip tickets ... from finding "actual" hotels in which to stay to seeing interesting attractions ... from booking trains and metros and taxis and cars to walking in order to sight see ... this trip will include all aspects of the perfect trip ... BUT ... it must be all in French!

French IV-AP is now viewing CARMEN, an "Opéra-Comique" by French composer George Bizet. The last "official" requirement of the FrIV-AP class, Bizet's music has been widely celebrated for its brilliance of melody and harmony, while creating an atmosphere that truly shows the emotions and suffering of the characters.

Miss Alberti's Spanish classes made cascarones.  Los Cascarones are confetti-filled eggs that when broken over someone's head is said to bring them good luck. In interior Mexico, just before Lent, cascarones are thrown at desired targets (typically friends or siblings) during fiestas. The idea for cascarones originates in Asia and later Italy.  The custom expanded to Spain and then eventually made its way to Mexico. Although they are

now filled with confetti, they originally contained perfumed powder and were given as gifts. Since the U.S. had melded many traditions from the Latin origin, cascarones are now colored and are decorated, just like the U.S. custom of decorating Easter eggs.

Each student was required to make two eggs: one to be decorated and graded, and the other, of course, for smashing. Students were allowed the option of participating in the smashing. Those who did participate had an awesome time!

Art Department Update
Students in Mr. Testani's art classes are using the principal of unity to create robots. The idea behind this principal is to combine parts to make up a whole. The pieces of the robot where made separately and then put together to build their completed idea. The Printmaking class created foam line prints. The students created designs that were etched into foam sheets - then ink was rolled over the design to create a print from their design onto a fabric.  Images below are from Jeanna Emanuel '15, Emily Mobilio '15 and Marleena Reed '15.
