This Week at ND...
Bishop Caggiano Celebrates Mass
On Thursday, Bishop Frank Caggiano celebrated mass for the Notre Dame community at Sacred Heart University's Chapel of the Holy Chapel. Bishop Caggiano challenged the students to remember the sacrifice Jesus made for all of us when he hung upon the cross - as we continue our Lenten journey towards the most important days in the Church's year. We were also fortunate to welcome our Superintendent Sister Mary Grace Walsh. Following mass, Student Council President Caitlin Lonergan presented Bishop Caggiano with a gift, as well as balloons and Italian cookies in honor of the Bishop's birthday.

ND Welcomes Visiting Educators
Notre Dame welcomed a group of visiting educators from across New England early this week for the school's once-every-ten-year re-accreditation visit. This Visiting Team looked at all aspects of our school community - from the curriculum, to activities, to alumni and development to the physical plant. This group reviewed the school's own Self Study and will provide valuable feedback to help the school develop its next five-year Strategic Plan. While we await receipt of the formal report, the Chair of the Visiting Committee complimented the school on its outstanding community and family atmosphere and praised the students, parents and faculty. As the school moves forward in the coming days and weeks, all constituencies (students, parents, faculty and alumni) will be asked to play an important role in charting the next steps for Notre Dame. Special thanks to those parents, students and alumni who took time out of their schedules to meet with the Visiting Team during their time at Notre Dame.

Social Studies Department Update
The Social Studies Department has been very busy. Mr Skawinski's freshmen have just completed their study of Rome, while his Juniors are busy working on their research papers. Mr. Winkler's seniors just finished their "bills." They had to present their own bills as if they were in Congress before they were voted upon by the class.

National Honor Society Sponsors Blood Drive
On Thursday, March 19, the junior and senior members of the National Honor Society, along with moderator Dr. Callaghan, sponsored the annual ND American Red Cross Blood Drive.  From the pool of eligible students, faculty and parents, ND was able to donate 28 pints of whole blood.
The Red Cross reminds us that there remains a dire need and that donors can give whole blood every 56 days.  Thanks to all who coordinated and participated in this truly life-saving event.

Student Work in Language Arts
After reading Romeo and Juliet, students in Mr. Fitzpatrick's freshman Language Arts classes created a variety of different projects. Click here to view a video project created by Jared Sullivan, Christopher Becker, and Anthony Bouvier
and here to read "The Edge" by Alexa Monrose.

Students Attend Lenten Talk
On Monday evening, Miss Medoff, Ally D'Aurio '16, Morgan Sweeney '15, Joshua Jeudy '17, and Becky Stefanatos '15 attended a dinner and Lenten talk at Assumption Church with former NYPD officer Steven McDonald. Officer McDonald was shot multiple times and is now paralyzed.  After forgiving the boy who shot him, he chooses to use his time giving inspiring talks across the area about the power of love, prayer, and forgiveness.

Mite Box Update
This week's mite box collection was for Al's Angels which helps children and families that are locally in need. The mite box together with the charitable donation option from last week's dress down day raised a total of $550. Miss Alberti's class was the winning homeroom this week and will receive a free dress down day. Thank you to everyone who participated including those who brought in jeans "for teens".

Campus Ministry Easter Party
Thursday afternoon Campus Ministry sponsored our annual Easter party.  This year our guests were the first graders from St. James School in Stratford.  Because of the inclement weather, students earned their eggs by participating in crafts and playing games.  Thank you very much to all the parents and students who donated candy and eggs.
