World Language Department Update

Spanish Classes
Students in Miss Alberti's and Mrs. Guarino's Spanish I classes studied family vocabulary. To practice their vocabulary, each student portraited the members of their family by creating family trees.

'Tis the Season and the World Language Department has been busy preparing to celebrate Christmas. All Spanish classes are studying about Christmas and its meaning in Spain and the Hispanic World. On Thursday, December 11 students in the Spanish classes and members of the Spanish Honor Society celebrated mass in honor of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Members of the Spanish Honor Society adorned ND's chapel with 10 dozen multi-colored roses to commemorate our Blessed Mother's visit to the Indian, Juan Diego, approximately 500 hundred years ago. The mass was celebrated by Fr. Luke in both Spanish and English.
From all of the Spanish students, Mrs. Guarino, Miss Alberti and Mrs. Morales: Feliz Navidad!

French Classes
French I students are moving along nicely with their grammar and vocabulary studies. In addition, the class is now studying the country of Senegal. Located in western Africa, this French-speaking country has been heralded as one of Africa's model democracies. The students have researched and are now presenting what they believe to be the highlights of this impressive country.

French II students are continuing their studies of the past tense. In doing so, they have been introduced to Dr. & Mrs. P Vandertramp! Although a fictitious couple, the students have learned that this acronym is vitally important to the formation of the passé composé!

French III students are also moving along in their studies and recently completed a unit on RECYCLING!  Armed with new vocabulary, each student was responsible for designing a recycling poster that boasted his/her favorite passion that needs to be protected.

French IV is equally as busy. The class is learning new vocabulary while reading about and discussing 16th Century French history and the resulting literature that was written during the Renaissance period. What an incredible time it was for prose and poetry! Humanism was evolving and the philosophical belief was that man was the center of the universe.

From all of the French students and Mme Zac: Joyeux Noël et Bonne Année!

Attention Parents and Students...

Important Deadlines for Seniors

Applications

Please make sure you give each of the counselors at least 3-4 days to fill out any scholarship information needed for applications. If any student comes in a day before or the day of a deadline, the counselors will be unable to complete this task. Please know when your deadlines are, and please give time for counselors to complete forms.

Also...

Meet with your counselor at least two weeks before your college application deadlines. Please have your student assessment form completed as well as asking teachers for recommendations.  This will allow the Guidance Office plenty of time to process the required paper work and allow teacher(s) the time to write recommendations by your college deadlines.

Scholarship Information

All seniors should be checking the scholarship list on Naviance.

When the Guidance Office receives any scholarship information it will be posted on Naviance under "Scholarships". Students should read the criteria to know that the scholarship is for their use.
