Athletic Association Hosts Wine Tasting Event...
The Notre Dame Athletic Association will be hosting its third annual Wine Tasting event on Saturday, November 9 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm in the Notre Dame cafeteria.  Admission is $25 per person ($35 at the door). Tickets will be available for purchase during report card conferences.  Everyone is invited -- bring your friends and family for a fun night out!  Click here for more information. Alumni Update ...
First Alumni Association Meeting...November 5
The first meeting of the newly formed Notre Dame High School Alumni Association will take place on Tuesday, November 5 at 7:00 pm in the ND library.  All Notre Dame alumni and alumni parents are invited to attend this important meeting. Please RSVP to Theresa Marzik, Alumni Director at marzik@notredame.org if you plan on attending or would like additional information. Remember "Once a Lancer, Always a Lancer".
Report Card Conferences ...
Report cards will be available for pick-up and teachers available for conferences on Thursday, November 7 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm and from 6:00 - 7:30 pm. All first marking period report cards must be picked up by a parent/guardian. Appointments are not necessary for conferences. Teachers are available on a first come, first serve basis. Students will be dismissed on November 7 at 11:34 am.
This Week at ND ...
Walk-A-Thon Update
On Monday, ND's Spirit Week kicked off with our annual student  Walk-a-thon.  278 students walked a three mile course around our school campus and then participated in field day games.  Our event this year was a great success, raising nearly $22,000.  The freshman class raised the most money and will be treated to a BBQ cooked by Fr. Bill and Mr. Cipriano.  Students who raised the most money were: 1st Place - Delaney O'Keefe '17; 2nd Place - Andrew Brown '14 and tied for 3rd Place - Kevin '14 and Sean Bradley '16
A very special thank you to Kathy Stefanantos, Parent Association President, and her wonderful crew of ND moms who helped with this year's event.  They spent the morning cooking for our student walkers and also walked the walk-a-thon course with our students.

English Classes Visit Peabody Museum
Last Thursday, seniors in Dr. Callaghan's AP Humanities class joined freshmen from Mrs. Fitter's honors and high honors World History classes on a trip to the Peabody Museum at Yale University in New Haven. In addition to touring the existing collections in the museum, students attended a class on human origins and had a guided tour of a temporary exhibit on ancient Egypt. Special thanks to faculty chaperone Mr. Kevin Philipp. 


Spirit Week
Students celebrated Spirit Week this week by dressing up each day to a different theme: Monday was Blue and Gold or Walk-a-thon T-Shirt, Tuesday was Twin Day, Thursday was Halloween Dress Up (Click here to see some of the creative costumes from the day) and Friday was Class Color Wars. To the right, Sam Halstead '14 and Jake Hawthorne '14 dress alike on Twin Day.

Art Classes
Mr. Testani's Art Classes are creating Masks for Halloween. The students have painted masks and many are hung up in the hallway across from the art room.

Fairfield University Health Fair
Student-nurses from Fairfield University visited Notre Dame on Tuesday. Freshmen and sophomores visited this health fair and received valuable information on the following topics: Exercise and Sports Injuries, Blood Pressure, Smart Eating, Facts About Drugs, Energy Drinks, Effects of Social Media and the Do's and Don'ts of Driving.
Campus Ministry Update ...
Students Host Halloween Party
On Tuesday, the first grade class of Saint Joseph School in Shelton visited Notre Dame and enjoyed a morning of trick or treating to various classrooms and offices around the building.  Afterward, the kids, along with their big ND brothers and sisters, gathered in Mr. Testani's room for Halloween arts and craft activities and some delicious snacks. Thank you to the faculty and staff who helped to fill those trick or treat bags and to our following ND big kids: Seniors - Austin Camacho, Mike Juan, Mark Komaromi, Dymond LeRoy, Matt Moffat, Collin Cegelka; Juniors - Alyssa Bergamasco, Nick DaSilva, Tyler DaSilva, Morgan Sweeney, Jessica Fogassa, Tyler Stimpson, Patrice Lauture; Sophomores - Caitlin Wardlow, Jasmine Gaudreau, Bayley McKeon and Freshman - Andrew Fallon, Isabella Manzo, Hannah Rich, Shelby Nolan, Olivia Keden and Jack Rohr.

Students Offer Tutoring Services
On Tuesday, the following students visited the kids of the Missionaries of Charity after school program in Bridgeport for an afternoon of tutoring and fellowship: Alex D'Aurio '16, Bayley McKeon '16, Caitlin Lonergan '15, Abby Porzio '15, Alicia Berard '16 and McKenzie Dobbins '16.

 

All Saint's Day Mass Celebrated
On Friday, the Notre Dame community celebrated the Solemnity of All Saint's Day with Mass in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Sacred Heart University.  A special thank you to Mr. St. Onge and the choir who raised our spirits even higher to the Heavens in praise and worship.  Thank you to the following students who assisted at Mass: Altar Servers:

Sister Marion Rielly Mass and Breakfast and Welcome To Our Freshmen and Transfer Families
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the passing of Notre Dame's beloved principal, Sister Marion Rielly.  Sister was an inspiration to all who knew her and her legacy lives on through the numerous students who receive the Sister Marion Rielly Scholarship each year.  The annual Sister Marion Rielly Mass will take place on Sunday, November 17 at 10:15 am in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Sacred Heart University, followed by breakfast. All members of the Notre Dame community are invited. This mass is also ND's official welcome mass for all our freshmen and transfer families.  If you plan on attending the mass and breakfast, please RSVP by November 10 to Theresa Marzik at marzik@notredame.org.

Lancer Legacy Gala Committee Meeting
Notre Dame's third annual Lancer Legacy Gala will take place on Saturday, March 1 on the campus of Sacred Heart University. Parents, alumni and friends are invited to attend a planning committee meeting on Tuesday, November 12 at 7:00 pm in the ND Library.  This is a great event to meet other members of the ND community, share your talents and just have fun! Club News...
Care Club
The Care Club enters its 30th year of service to the community with two projects.
  1. "Project From the Heart" has begun. We are asking each student to donate at least one item for our service people in Afghanistan from the lists posted in their homerooms. Boxes of supplies will be delivered in time for Christmas. Money donations for shipping costs are also gratefully accepted. If you would like a box sent to someone you know, please leave their address in the donation box located in the library.
  2. We are working again with Sister Eileen Boffa and the Bridgeport Homeless Project. Sister is asking for donations of new or used "hoodies" (parkas). They can be left in the library.

Attention Junior Parents...
S.A.T and College Planning

The Guidance Department is sponsoring a program for parents to discuss the S.A.T. and College Planning for junior students. You are encouraged to attend this important presentation. The meeting will be held on Monday, November 4 at 7:00 pm, in the Curtis Hall Theatre (next to the Pitt Center) at Sacred Heart University. The following topics will be discussed:

  • Introduction to College Process
  • Discussion of the S.A.T. and A.C.T.
  • Introduction to Naviance

Notre Dame uses the college guidance program Naviance. A letter was sent home with a registration card for your use. Please be sure to go online and register with your son/daughter. We look forward to meeting with you.   


S.A.T. Prep Class Offered by the Caribe Youth Saturday Academy

Bridgeport Caribe Youth Leaders is launching its 4th annual SAT prep program for high school students from Bridgeport. An orientation will be held on December 7 for both student and parents. The orientation is mandatory due to a pre-test assessment. The course runs from January to March 2014 and will be held Saturday mornings from 9:00 am - 1:00 pm at the University of Bridgeport campus. Due to a partnership with UB, the group is able to keep the program fee very low for students ($70) and all costs go to cover books, materials and college tours. If you are currently a junior in high school please consider learning more about this program, as space is limited. The GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program annually awards 20 college-bound students who demonstrated exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with $10,000 renewable scholarships. Click here for more information, eligibility requirements and an on-line application.

Parent Volunteers 
The Notre Dame Parent Association appreciates the help and support of all our parent volunteers. Remember, before you can volunteer at an event with students, you need to complete Virtus training.  To register for a training session, please click here. The Parent Association is sponsoring a Christmas Wreath Sale.  Pre-order sales will be taken through Monday, November 11. Wreaths are fresh from Fort Fairfield, Maine and will be delivered to Notre Dame the first week of December.  Please spread the word to friends and family and support the Notre Dame Parent Association. Student Opportunities...
Youth Volunteer Award
All students who have completed volunteer work in the past year are invited to apply for the Prudential Spirit of Community Award. One student from each state will be designated as a State Honoree, win a $1,000 award and an all-expenses paid trip to Washington, D.C. in May 2014. To access the on-line application, click here. The deadline for submitting an application is November 5.

Emerging Young Artist Scholarship  

The annual Emerging Young Artist Scholarship Award of $2,000 created by Stamford Center for the Arts will be awarded to a high school student residing in Fairfield County who is pursuing his/her career in the performing arts. This year the award will be given for Original Composition. The deadline for all materials to be received is February 24, 2014. The finalists will be contacted in late February for a live audition scheduled for March 8, 2014. Click here to view more information.
Boys Basketball 
There will be a mandatory meeting for students and parents/guardians on Tuesday, November 12 at 7:00 pm in the cafeteria for anyone interested in trying out for the boys' basketball team. Please see Mr. Bleggi if you can not attend.

Football Team Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign
The Notre Dame football team will once again join in a unified stance with the NFL Players Association to help create a world with less breast cancer and more birthdays by participating in the NFL "A Crucial Catch" campaign. The Notre Dame Lancers will hold their event on Saturday, November 2 at home. Game time is 2:30 pm. Fans are asked to come and support the team as they raise money to support the American Cancer Society's mission to help others. All proceeds raised from the sales of raffle tickets, baked goods and 50/50 will be donated to the Cancer Society on behalf of Notre Dame. So please wear your pink and join us in an afternoon of fun, football and the fight against cancer.
