Sophomore Class Mass
Beginning this school year and following a rotating schedule, class masses have been added to the school calendar. These masses allow students to gather together as a faith community on a regular basis. This Friday, the sophomore class joined Fr. Bill Sangiovanni in the ND Chapel to celebrate mass together as a class.

Invisible Children Assembly

The group Invisible Children visited Notre Dame on Monday, kicking off their East Coast tour. Invisible Children works to educate the American public and ultimately bring to an end the practice of child soldiering in Northern Uganda. This country, ravaged by war for over three decades, faces tremendous challenges. Through the viewing of a film and by hearing from a resident of Northern Uganda, who himself was kidnapped and one of Joseph Kony's child soldiers for six months, the Notre Dame community heard the call to help bring to an end one of the great on-going tragedies in our world today.

Girls' Volleyball Team Lends a Green Thumb

A big thank you to some of the younger members of our girls volleyball team who took a trip on Saturday to Meriden, CT to spend the day with the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist on their farm. In addition to getting a tour of the farm with its many sheep, chickens and goats, the girls put in a great green-thumb effort gardening, landscaping, praying and eating. A special thank you to Mrs. Merly for helping to chaperone the event. Participants included: Alana Merly '16, Shelby Nolan '17, Olivia Keden '17, Rose Brennan '16, Connie Tucker '17, Livia Silva '17, Tatiana Tozzi '16 and Mashiy Harris-Tate '17.

Students Dine With Bishop Caggiano
On Thursday, a group of some of our finest senior young men gathered with other teens from throughout the Diocese for the Saint Andrew's Dinner with our newly installed Bishop Caggiano.  The evening began with a prayer service led by the Bishop in the Saint John Fisher Seminary Chapel in Stamford.  Afterward, all gathered for an awesome and filling dinner. Throughout the evening, a few men, including the Bishop, shared personal stories about the importance and necessity of Christ in their lives. Participants included: Charlie Fallon, Matt Lasky, Joe D'Amico, Sean Cronan, Matt Moffat, Mike DeGennaro, Collin Cegelka and Kevin Bradley.

Nature and Art Class

The Art and Nature class has created patterns inspired by nature. The students went outside to create their design on a banana - using pins to cut, poke and score their pattern and then let the air oxidize the peel to create their works. Each student took a picture and uploaded it to the ND Art Gallery online before eating their art. To see more banana patterns at visit ndnature14.tumblr.com. To see more ND art, visit ND-art.tumblr.com. The banana patterns seen below were created by Emily Wonsiewicz '14, Bayley McKeon '16 and Kate Muldoon '16

Other News...
Host Family Needed
CIEE seeks a host family for the school year for one of our students - Yiyu or "Coco", a 14 year old girl from China here on an international exchange program.  Coco enjoys traditional Chinese dancing and music, drawing, and playing volleyball.  She lives with her mother, father, and grandparents in China and does not have any siblings. Coco writes: "I am talkative and outgoing; I like to meet new people. At first, I be a little shy, but when I get used to you, I can always make people laugh."

Coco is especially passionate about dance and has traveled to Korea, the U.S., and Thailand for different dance events in the past.  She also enjoys drawing, reading, swimming, and watching American TV shows with her friends.  She loves pets and would enjoy living with them, but is afraid of large dogs. Coco prefers to live with a non-smoking family.

CIEE accepts all kinds of families (kids, no kids, empty nesters, single parents, etc.)  Our students have the appropriate visa, medical insurance and pay for all of their own personal expenses.  All that is required of a host family is to provide a bed and an extra plate at the table!

For more information, including monthly stipend information, please contact CIEE (Council on International Education Exchange) Regional Director Loretta Ascencio at 1-866-219-3734 or lascencio@ciee.org.
Operation Lawn Sign
Thank you to everyone who already volunteered to put an ND Open House Lawn Sign on their front lawn. We still have more to distribute ... With Notre Dame's annual Open House right around the corner, we would like to solicit everyone's help in spreading the word to prospective families. In an effort to get the word out, we have purchased several hundred Open House lawn signs. The goal for this campaign is to get a sign on the front lawn of 100% of our families. This campaign will increase our school's awareness in local communities, and bring more prospective families to the forefront. The campaign involve the following steps:
  1. Email Gaetano Marra, Director of Admissions, at marra@notredame.org
  2. Request your lawn sign to be picked up in his office at your convenience, or give permission for us to place the sign on your lawn.  (Yes, he will come to you!)
  3. Once the lawn signs are up, we are asking families to take a photo in front of the sign, and email that back to Mr. Marra.
  4. We will be getting these photos on all of our social media networks, and work towards continuing to grow our enrollment.
  5. We request that all signs be returned the week after Open House, which is Sunday, October 20th.
With your help, we will continue to grow our school and show local families just how phenomenal a Catholic education at Notre Dame truly is.
