 ... Nakia Mabin '15 who was nominated by her program director and then selected by the Bridgeport Executive Director and the Board of Directors as Youth of the Year for the Boys and Girls Club in Bridgeport. State finalists are juniors or seniors who earn college scholarships and compete for National Youth of the Year and cash awards. Nakia spent several days in Hartford working on her essays with her director and meeting other people at the Boys and Girls Club in order to improve her chances at the state level next year.  ... Ally D'Aurio '16 who was awarded a civilian award from the Orange Police Department on May 16 for her diligence and prompt action in saving a young girl from drowning on July 17, 2010. Ally saw that there was a young girl under water and unconscious at the deep end of the pool so she dove in and brought her up to the surface, screamed for help, and immediately grabbed her phone and called 911. Thanks to Ally's quick reactions, she aided in saving this young girl's life.
... the following seniors who were recognized by the Fairfield Rotary Club for their academic achievements in high school at a luncheon this week: Njeri Dodson, Madeline Guman, Michael Lenard, Jennifer Mezzapelle, Duncan Plumb, Lauren Puskar, Allison Rohr, Mark Salvioli, Sandie Samrin, and Evan Yiannoulis. Also in attendance at the luncheon were Mr. Cipriano and Superintendent of Schools Sister Mary Grace Walsh. ... Jennifer Mezzapelle, Lauren Jones and Sandie Samrin who received a scholarship from the Kiwanis Club of Fairfield at a luncheon on Wednesday. These students were selected based upon their academic achievements and community service contributions. Notre Dame is certainly proud that ND students captured three of the four scholarships available to students at the four Fairfield high schools!
... Jake Heaton '15 who won the high jump at the SWC championship meet on Tuesday. Jake won with a jump of six feet.

Senior PromOne hundred and twenty-eight seniors and their dates attended the Senior Prom, "Arabian Nights" on Friday, May 17 at the Italian Center in Stamford. One of the highlights of the evening was the arrival of Maddie Guman, Mark Savioli, Kayla Choothesa and her escort Winston Crumb and Keara Bohannon and her escort in a horse drawn carriage. The arrival caused traffic to slow down on Newfield Avenue!
The Prom Court included: Duke and Duchess - Earl Coleman and Juliette Rivera; Lord and Lady - Njeri Dodson and Phil DiNoto; Prince and Princess - Collin Rush and Ashley Fulton; King and Queen - Kayleigh Spataj and Karl Rodriguez. A thank you to the teachers who chaperoned the Prom: Fr. Bill, Fr. Cipriani, Mr. Sweeney, Mr. Sopko, Mr. Salce, Mr. and Mrs. Winkler, Mr. Kevin Philipp, Mr. Carl Philipp and Miss Zembrzuski.
Students Keep Busy in English Class
The English Department has been very busy as the school year comes to a close. The summer reading list for next year will be announced soon. The Juniors have turned in their research papers and are anxiously awaiting their return. They are also presenting their technology projects in class this week. They had the option of presenting a book trailer for an American author or choosing an American author and presenting them as Time Magazine's Person of the Year.
Fun at Discovery Magnet School's Field Day  On Friday, May 17, a group of 40 Notre Dame students assisted the Discovery Magnet School with its Field Day which was held for Pre-K to 2nd grade students. There was a lot of running around by both their kids and ours - who were outstanding and great big brothers and sisters for the day. A very special note of thanks to Mrs. Emanuel and Paul Marzik '11 for assisting with chaperoning duties! Hand Wipes and/or New or Used Backpacks Needed
 The Care Club has one last project for the school year. Sister Eileen Boffa, R.S.M. has requested some help in her mission with the homeless. She would appreciate donations of hand wipes and back packs (new or used - no matter how poor the condition). Students can leave donations in Religion classes or in the main office. If you have any questions, leave a message for Mrs. Haffner at school. The drive has been extended to the end of the school year. Again, thank you for caring.

Tuition
Families are reminded that tuition collection for the 2013-14 school year has begun. Families can visit www.parents.smarttuition.com to access their account. Families who pay tuition in full by June 15, 2013 (as long as financial aid/scholarships are less than $2,500) will receive a $200 discount. Beginning June 15, the main office will no longer be able to accept credit card payments. Any credit card payments must be made through Smart Tuition (and will be subject to a service fee). In addition, payments must be made by the 15th of each month or Smart Tuition will assess a $35 late fee.
Textbook Returns to the SHU Bookstore For the convenience of families who rented textbooks from the Sacred Heart University Bookstore, textbook rental returns (or buy backs if you purchased books and choose to sell them back) will be offered at Notre Dame on the following days: For seniors: June 3 and June 4 from 9:30 to 11:30 am. For underclassmen: June 13 and June 14 from 11:30 am to 1:30 pm and June 17 from 9:30 to 11:30 am. Families are also welcome to return books directly to the SHU Bookstore at any time. All rentals must be returned by Wednesday, June 19.

The final Ed Line reports for the fourth marking period will be issued on Sunday, May 26.
Tuition Raffle
St. Ann School is proud to present a $15,000 Special Tuition Raffle. The prize can be used for any Pre K-12 school, college or university.
The prize is to be paid directly to any Pre K-12 schools, colleges or universities. Schools must be located and accredited in the U.S. Only 1,000 tickets will be available at $75 per ticket. 300 tickets must be sold for the raffle to proceed. If fewer than 300 tickets are sold, the raffle will be canceled and the ticket purchasers will receive a full refund. Proceeds from the raffle will benefit St. Ann School.
The $15,000 Tuition Raffle drawing will be held at Black Rock Day on Sunday, June 9, 2013 promptly at 1:30 pm. at Ellsworth Field, Brewster St., in Bridgeport. Winning ticket holder does not need to be present to win.

Vincent Vizzo Memorial Scholarship
Graduating seniors from high schools in the Greater Bridgeport Area towns of Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Milford, Monroe, Shelton, Stratford, Trumbull or Westport may apply for the Vincent Vizzo Memorial Scholarship. There are two (2) scholarships of one-thousand dollars ($1,000.00) each. The scholarships will be awarded at the CIAS Grand Marshall's dinner at the Holiday Inn in Bridgeport on Thursday, June 13, 2013. Please contact the Guidance office for a scholarship application.

Travelers Championship Looking for Volunteers The Travelers Championship, Connecticut's premier sporting event, will be taking place in Cromwell from June 17 - 23. The Travelers Championship is looking for people to join their volunteer team. Get Published
The Fairfield County Catholic newspaper is looking for high school-aged Catholic teens to write an article to be published in the Fairfield County Catholic Newspaper and the Diocese Youth Webpage. State Tournament Info
The boys' lacrosse team (#17 seed) will begin competition in the state tournament by traveling to Old Lyme (#16 seed) on Saturday in the qualifying round of the Division II tournament. The baseball team earned a #10 seed in the Class S state tournament and will host Conventry in the opening round on Tuesday at 3:30 pm. The golf team will compete in the SWC championship on Friday, May 31 and the state open on Monday, June 3. Those members of the track and field teams who have qualified for the state open will be competing in their events next week.
ND Summer Clinics
ND boys' basketball coach, Vin Laczkoski, will be holding a basketball clinic for girls and boys ages 6 to 16. The purpose of the clinic is to teach young players the proper fundamentals of basketball. Click here for more details.
Hoop Heaven Basketball Camp
Improve your basketball skills and have fun while doing it! Games, prizes, contests every day! Directed by Steve Dunn, current Varsity Assistant Girls Basketball Coach at Darien High School and a coach for boys and girls of various ages for the past 25 years, the camp is for boys and girls ages 9-14 and runs from 9:00 AM to 2:30 PM. Fall Sports Information
Football
A Combine and Skills Clinic for 9th-12th graders will be held on Sunday, June 2. This event is provided at a cost of $35.00 per athlete. The program features on-the-field testing with positional drills. Parents are welcome to attend seminars on NCAA recruiting and college financial aid process. There will be on site evaluation by college scouts and coaches. The MVP of the combine will be awarded an invite to the U.S. Army All-American National Combine. All the proceeds will be given to scholar-athlete awards. Click here for more information.
