Sophomore Retreat
On Monday, the sophomores gathered together for their annual retreat day. A day started with breakfast, some fun and games, good reflection time and some really good bonding time. Discussions about how to improve the spirit of ND were tackled in addition to discussing ways how one can better contribute to creating a more positive atmosphere at school and confronting honestly that causes one and others negativity. This was a good transition into the Stations of the Cross where students reflected on Christ's courageous journey to Calvary and how each step and station is relevant to each student's life here and now. The day was concluded with Mass which was made extra special by a Ring Ceremony/Blessing for those students receiving class rings. Following the Mass, a reception was held in the Chapel lobby. A very special thanks to the moms who made this possible, especially Mrs. Stefanatos and Mrs. Bergamasco. A very special thank you as well to the following Seniors who helped serve their younger ND brothers and sisters with the gift of their time and encouragement: Michael King and Kayleigh Spataj (both of whom helped out for the entire retreat), Jennifer Mezzapelle, Evelyn Alvarez, Bianca Bertier, Chrissy Blanchard, Lauren Jones, Brendan Wardlow, Erik Laaksonen, Matt Heim, Aly Furgiuele, Steve Cavallo, Dan Murphy, Jalani Roman, Jasmin Williams, and Tyanna Palmer.

At a week-long sleep-away program in a beautiful camp setting, YEA campers choose an issue of importance to them and build the knowledge, skills, confidence, and community to take action on that issue once they get home. Campers also build lifelong friendships between youth with similar interests in bettering their community and society. Youth who have participated in the program report that the camp was one of the most fun, memorable and life-changing experiences they have had, and, with YEA's support, many have gone on to start school clubs, plan fundraisers for nonprofits, organize a call-in to Congress, and attend hearings to comment about important community issues. Book Drive
ND is participating in the yearly town-wide book drive sponsored by the Fairfield Kiwanis Club now through March 25, 2013. Last year, Fairfield Kiwanis collected 6,200 books for infants through 8th grade. They were donated to Connecticut Read to Grow which annually gives out over 100,000 books to families in need. These children are given a book at birth, at three months and again at age 1. Often times these are the only books the family owns. You and your child may help by bringing in gently used books and put them in the collection bin in the main office. Diaper Drive Extended
The Care Club is asking for your help in providing diapers, a very important necessity for Caroline House, an education center run by the School Sisters of Notre Dame. The center offers women, without regard to race, religion or ethnic background, tuition-free opportunities to learn English as a second language, basic computer and life skills. Their young children attend an on-site pre-school program while their mothers attend classes. This prepares the children for successful entry into English-only kindergartens. One of the greatest needs each day are--DIAPERS!!! We would appreciate donations of coupons, diapers or money. Checks can be made out to Caroline House and given to Mrs. Ezepchick in the office. Other offerings can be deposited in the library from now until March 25. Thank you for caring.
