History Department Spotlight
The Social Studies Department has been very busy in a very historical year. The Senior American Government classes just finished a "mock Congress". They discussed and debated bills in class and even passed a few. The debates were lively and informative. The junior American history classes are choosing their research paper topics in conjunction with their English classes. The freshman classes are beginning projects and giving presentations on the ancient world. All classes continue to discuss and monitor what is going on in the world and the effect it will have on history.

French Classes Celebrate Mari Gras
Not the wind, nor the cold, nor the snow (and ND's closing) stopped Mme Zac's classes from having a "mini-Mardi Gras" celebration. French I, French II, and French III made Mardi Gras masks on Thursday during classes.
Mardi Gras mask-wearing during the holiday originated during the European celebration of Carnivale when revelers used to wear masks to help them to release inhibitions during the pre-Lent time of excess and mischief. Of course it was easier to act on impluse when no one knew the masked-faced performer!

Juniors: Raphael Torres, Dy-mond Leroy, Alex Danas, Jillian Gelmetti, Lizette Dos Santos, Kimberly Labady, and Gwen Vital show off their masks.
