ND Student Service Day A Tremendous Success
A message from Fr. Cipriani: "There are no words to express both my gratitude and pride for what our students and chaperones so amazingly and successfully accomplished for Notre Dame's third annual Student Service Day on Friday, February 1. Thank you to the 190 students who signed up to participate and 38 chaperones who assisted in this "D Day Invasion" of rides getting our students to and from the work project sites, which were about 23 in number. A special thanks to Carl Philipp, Kevin Philipp, Barbara Ezepchick and Josh St. Onge for turning the "chaos" of calling down kids and sending them off into a smoothly run operation. And a huge thank you to our faculty and staff for all your patience, support and prayers."
Students and chaperones were sent to 23 different sites around southwestern Connecticut to volunteer their time. Some of the sites and services they provided were:
Schools
ND students acted as Big Brothers/Big Sisters to third graders from Saint Peter, Saint Ann, Saint Catherine, and Saint Raphael Schools by taking them to a performance of Beauty and the Beast at Bridgeport's Downtown Cabaret. Students were also sent to area schools such as Our Lady of Grace and Villa Divino in Stamford, Missionary Sisters of the Immaculate Heart in Bridgeport, where they assisted teachers, played with the students or assisted the students with projects. Soup Kitchens
Groups of Notre Dame students were sent to the Merton House, New Haven Community Soup Kitchen or Saint Stephen's Food Pantry in Bridgeport to serve breakfast and lunch to those in need.
SheltersSome ND students helped serve breakfast to both the men and women's houses of Homes for the Brave, who assist our military veterans, or had the opportunity to assist at Norwalk Emergency Shelter, Operation Hope in Fairfield, Malta House for Pregnant Women Shelter in Norwalk and the Bridgeport Rescue Mission .Nursing Homes Other Notre Dame students volunteered their time at area nursing homes such as Saint Joseph's Manor in Trumbull and Notre Dame Convalescent Home in Norwalk. Other Sites
Other students volunteered their time assisting the Franciscan Sisters of the Eucharist in Meriden, at the Caroline House in Bridgeport and with a group of Sacred Heart University special needs students who visited Notre Dame.

The evening began with Mass with staff and benefactors, followed by dinner with the residents and their children and some former residents who were visiting and who highlighted the success and necessity of this shelter. The evening concluded with some babysitting and a tour of the facilities. The following students volunteered their time: Patrice Lauture '15, Pedrica Belizaire '14, Gwen Vital '14, and Nichole Miller '14.

Foreign Language Spotlight
The French classes will be very busy during the week of February 11-14! French IV-AP and French III will be celebrating the Feast Day of Our Lady of Lourdes on Monday. The French mass will be celebrated by Fr. Cipriani in the ND chapel during period D.
On Tuesday, all of Madame Zac's French classes will be celebrating Mardi Gras.
