In honor of the 26 victims of the Newtown tragedy, ND began our '26 Acts of Kindness' campaign this week with simple gestures like "Please and Thank You Day" on Wednesday, "Hold the Door Open for Someone Behind You Day" on Thursday and "Be Kind to Yourself Day" on Friday. We will be encouraging a different act of kindness for 26 school days, not including mid-term week, ending on February 14. This campaign is our school's collective effort to bring positive energy forward after the events in Newtown last month. The movement was started by NBC's Ann Curry as a "random" act of kindness campaign. ND's won't be "random" but will have the same goal. Many of the "acts" are simple things that everyone of us can do daily to help put a smile on someone else's face -- and even our own. We will have several letter writing campaigns as well, a collection for Sandy Hook Elementary, and a few "drives" to help local charities. A highlight of the campaign will be on February 1, ND's annual community service day - where students get out into the community to help others. Click here to view the full 26 days of kindness calendar.
Students, faculty, alumni, parents, and friends are all welcome and encouraged to join our campaign to help share goodness with others in the new year.

Thank You Notre Dame Angels
During the Christmas season, the ND community became aware of many families in need. After asking for your help, donations of clothes, toys and gift cards were sent to these families, helping to brighten the holiday for so many. One family was so deeply grateful for all that was done for her children and her that she sent this letter and asked it be shared with the ND community:
Dear Santas:
I would like to thank you for everything that you have done for me this Christmas season. I can't even put into words how much I appreciated everything that was done!!! Not only did you make my children's Christmas, but you made mine also. This will be a Christmas that I will never forget. I felt like a big kid myself not knowing what the gifts were, made it really feel as though there was a Santa. Before you helped me out I really didn't know how I was going to provide presents for my children. When I saw how much you did for me I started to cry and just to see the smiles on the kids faces when they opened up their gifts was priceless. Again I could never express how much I appreciate and how grateful I am for all that you have done for me and my family. I'm glad to see that there are people out there that extend their Holiday spirit. You are truly an angel in disguise.
With Love,
Dyana, Alizé, Colonel, Zeolahn and Dennis

Interested in becoming a host family for a new international student at ND? New ND students from South Korea are looking for warm and caring host families. They are interested in staying with host families because they want to learn more about American culture and to practice their English in an authentic atmosphere. By becoming a host family, you will not only give a student the chance to experience daily American life, but will also provide your family an opportunity to learn about another culture without having to leave your home. An appropriate Host Family will: 1. Have an open mind towards a different culture and be ready to learn about it. 2. Be able to provide a private room (a bathroom may be shared) for the student. 3. Be able to accept and take care of the student just like your own children, which includes:
- providing a safe and comfortable environment
- providing 3 adequate meals and appropriate snacks each day
- providing rides to and from school and activities and/or for essential shopping
We understand that sharing your home with a stranger is not easy, and your offering cannot be easily measured. However, as a gesture in appreciation of your hospitality, JY Education will contribute $1,200 monthly stipend to the host family. If you are interested, please use contact information below: Dr. Jinyoung Park - JY Education ( www.jyeducation.com) Phone: (203) 763-4345 or (347) 860-0859 e-mail: jyeducation@gmail.com
