Prayer Service Remembers the Newtown Tragedy
On Monday morning, the Notre Dame community came together for a prayer service to remember the victims of the recent Newtown tragedy. 20 students and six faculty began the service by carrying a candle to the altar. Fr. Cipriani delivered the homily and two students shared their vocal talents with the community: Allison Rohr '13 sang Amazing Grace and Dan Murphy '13 sang Silent Night. All students and staff members wrote a prayer intention and these prayer requests were brought to the altar. Forty parents and family members joined us for this emotional ceremony. Also, on Friday morning, at 9:30 am, the Notre Dame community observed a 26 second moment of silence and rang a bell 26 times in honor of the victims. Our entire community continues to keep all of those impacted by this event in our thoughts and prayers. To read Mr. Cipriano's recent blog entry related to these events, click here.

School Supply Drive Update
This month ND students, parents, alumni and friends have donated school supplies to children in Afghanistan after receiving a letter from Fernando Moreno '04 who is stationed there. We recently received this update: "We had a patient to see today... he is an 8 year old boy who had a follow up. He was injured a month ago and as we went to see him, I took the opportunity to take him some school supplies that the ND family sent! The joy in his face can only be explained by this picture! Thank You again for all your help and as I said before, once we get in contact and set things up with a school, we will be handing out all of the stuff." ~ Fernando Moreno

Interested in becoming a host family for a new international student at ND? New ND students from South Korea are looking for warm and caring host families. They are interested in staying with host families because they want to learn more about American culture and to practice their English in an authentic atmosphere. By becoming a host family, you will not only give a student the chance to experience daily American life, but will also provide your family an opportunity to learn about another culture without having to leave your home. An appropriate Host Family will: 1. Have an open mind towards a different culture and be ready to learn about it. 2. Be able to provide a private room (a bathroom may be shared) for the student. 3. Be able to accept and take care of the student just like your own children, which includes:
- providing a safe and comfortable environment
- providing 3 adequate meals and appropriate snacks each day
- providing rides to and from school and activities and/or for essential shopping
We understand that sharing your home with a stranger is not easy, and your offering cannot be easily measured. However, as a gesture in appreciation of your hospitality, JY Education will contribute $1,200 monthly stipend to the host family. If you are interested, please use contact information below: Dr. Jinyoung Park - JY Education ( www.jyeducation.com) Phone: (203) 763-4345 or (347) 860-0859 e-mail: jyeducation@gmail.com
