Key Club Food Drive A Great Success

A big thank you to the many students, parents, faculty and alumni who contributed to the Key Club's Thanksgiving Food Drive. We were able to deliver 198 turkeys and other non-perishable food items to Sister Theresa of the Sisters of Charity on North Avenue in Bridgeport.  Sister was ever so grateful for Notre Dame and it helped her to exceed her goal.  She did tell us that more than ever there was a need due to Hurricane Sandy - from the people who lost their homes to those who are unemployed.

A special thank you to Mr. Minei and Mrs. Stefanatos for

helping drive and get the turkeys and food to the location and to the following Key Club members, along with Ms. Z and Mrs. Miller who helped deliver the items: Lauren Jones '13,  Aly Furgiuele '13, Michael Lenard '13, Sara Figueroa '13, Sofi Geismar '13, Tim Furgiuele '16, Morgan Sweeney '15, Becky Stefanatos '15 and Sandie Samrin '13.

With Christmas right around the corner, Sister Theresa will be sending us a list of families that we can adopt for the holiday.  Many of these families have lost their homes due to Hurricane Sandy.  In addition, we will also be collecting gift cards for the teens she helps in her new teen center.  Stay tuned to future announcements.  Again thank you for all of your generosity.  Happy Thanksgiving to all.

Parent Teacher Conferences

First marking period report cards will be available for parent/guardian pick-up, and teachers will be available for conferences on Tuesday, November 20 from 1:00 - 4:00 pm and 6:00 - 7:30 pm. Appointments are not necessary for conferences. Please note that report cards will be withheld for any families who are two or more months behind in tuition payments.

Notre Dame Veterans' Day Ceremony

Nick Carloto '15 & Matt Carloto '16 with their
great aunt Suzanne Burr Monaco and
grandfather George Burr '64
Notre Dame held a Veterans' Day Prayer Service on Monday at Sacred Heart University's Chapel of the Holy Spirit. During the ceremony, names of all alumni who went on to serve in the military were read aloud. Special tribute was paid to the five graduates who died while serving their nation - four in Vietnam and one in Iraq. Following the ceremony, George Burr '64 shared his military experience during Vietnam and his father's experience on the beaches of Normandy, France during D-Day. Special thanks to Mr. St. Onge for his help in organizing the prayer service, Fr. Cipriani for his excellent homily, Allison Rohr '13 for sharing her amazing voice with the community, Mr. Burr for sharing his time and stories with us and to the ten students - Jasmin Williams '13, Alex D'Aurio '16, Tyler Lehren '13, Lauren Berard '14, Jennifer Mezzapelle '13, Aly Furgiuele '13, Matt Tolster '13, Steve Cavallo '13, Kereece Williams '13, and Allison Rohr '13 - who read the names of their predecessors who had graduated and entered the armed forces.

ND Receives Prestigious Michael's Cup

Seniors Duncan Plumb, Peter Petrino, Jennifer Mezzapelle, Lauren Puskar and Mr. Bleggi
On Thursday, ND Athletic Director Mr. Bleggi and four student-athletes attended the CIAC's annual Sportsmanship Conference in Southington. The keynote speaker for the event was motivational speaker Harvey Alston. After lunch, Notre Dame was presented, for the second straight year, with the prestigious Michael's Cup. In total, only eighteen high schools from across the state were selected to receive this honor. To be recognized, achievement in seven areas is measured: sportsmanship, participation (number of student-athletes), athletic scholarship (academic success of student-athletes), athletic personnel (trainer), equity (equal number of male and female sports), chemical free initiatives and athletic achievement.
