Neighbors Helping Neighbors
After the recent storm, Sean Cronan '14 lent a helping hand to his neighbors. Sean used the skills he gained from his volunteer work during the Notre Dame- sponsored Appalachia trip and Maine coastal conservation projects to clear large tree limbs and roofing debris that had fallen during Hurricane Sandy.

Members of the junior class traveled to Boston on Tuesday, October 23 for their annual class trip. Students enjoyed a tour of city on a Duck Boat, both from the streets of Boston and from the Charles River. After lunch at Quincy Market, the group completed a walking tour along the Freedom Trail and visited the Old North Church in the North End of Boston before departing. Thanks to a beautiful day weather-wise and the company of good friends, everyone had a great day. Special thanks to parents Mrs. Bridgit Shkreli and Mr. Dwight Mason who helped to chaperone the trip.

English Classes Attend Production of A Raisin in the Sun
On Thursday, October 25, 80 members of Notre Dame's sophomore and junior classes attended a performance of A Raisin in the Sun at the Westport Country Playhouse. Directed by Phylicia Rashad ("Mrs. Clare Huxtable" from The Cosby Show) who herself has won a Tony for her portrayal of Lena Younger), the play brilliantly and poignantly depicted one family's pursuit of the American dream. The students and English teachers, Claudia Miller, Marc Sulzycki, Ellen Visnyei and Mary Callaghan also benefited enormously from the multimedia pre-performance enrichment program, What Happens to a Dream Deferred?, generously supplied by the WCP. As always, the ND English department remains alert to opportunities for live theater. We are anticipating several other performances in the spring of 2013.
