"BUT I SAW THE SAME DIAMOND FOR CHEAPER!"

Why when looking at diamonds on-line, customer's never go to PAGE 2?
If someone said they saw the same diamond for less money, remind them they
ALSO SAW THE SAME DIAMOND FOR MORE MONEY!
They saw MANY different prices for the "same" item didn't they?
They probably saw a 1ct Round G SI1 for $2,000 BUT THEY ALSO SAW a 1ct G SI1 for $9,000! ASK YOUR CUSTOMER WHY? The answer: Because not every G SI1 is the same!
If every G SI1 was the same, everyone would always buy the cheapest!
There are many degrees and differences within the color and clarity grades. Brightness, scintillation, quality of the rough, position of inclusions. These all determine beauty and are not listed on any cert.
When customer's look on-line at diamond prices they often just focus on the cheapest, just the first few lsitings. Ask your customer what about all the diamonds on page two?

Today's Trends in Diamond Cutting
In the recent past diamonds were cut to retain weight. Cutters would rather cut an off-cut 1ct, than an Ideal cut diamond that weighed in the .90 carats. In today's market, CUT is king. A diamond that gets a "fair" cut grade can be worth as little as half the price!!! Cutters have to work
much harder to get better cuts. Diamonds are now cut to an ideal cut .90 rather than an off cut 1ct.
p.s. Did you know a rough diamond will loose 40-70% of its weight in the cutting process?

How do you get an
Ideal Cut Diamond?
Today all cuts are do ne by computer. This does not make the cutters job an easier, says veteran cutter Moshe Schwartz of 47th street, who has been cutting since 1970.
The computer Mr. Schwartz uses has an eye which measures the diamond. It tells the cutter the measurements on the top and bottom of the diamond and how much the cutter should take off.
Even though much is done with computers, Mr. Schwartz says this actually makes his job harder, since today the cutting must be much more precise to get excellent polish and symmetry.

How Often Do
Diamonds Break?
Chips and breaks happen much more frequent ly with older cuts like old miner's because in the past diamonds were cut with thinner girdles. Today the most common re-cut is corners on princess cuts. 4 corners gives you 4 chances for one to chip or break! Jewelers must be
very careful when setting princess cuts.

Can CUTTING A DIAMOND Change It's Color?
Yes, color can change. When an old cut is cut into a modern cut it can bring out more color. In older cuts open culets let color leak through and unpolished girdles, making a diamond look whiter. Color does not always change in re-cuts, but there are always risks, so keep this in mind.
