The Best Damn Ship in the Navy Why do we go to trade show seminars? To get inspired & motivated! Keynote speaker at Centurion did just that. |
At the age of only 36, U.S. Navy Commander Michael Abrashoff was the most junior command ing officer in the Pacific.
Commander Abrashoff took the WORST performing ship and, in only 18 months, made it the BEST performing ship in the Pacific! !
What Michael did so incredibly well was to make his workers (sailors) feel responsible for the success of the business (the ship). Staff loyalty is the best way to better performance.
You don't get that by paying your employees more money. You improve performance by making your employees feel A PART of the company! Cmdr. Abrashoff replaced commanding with commitment. If your employees share in the good of the company, they will treat your customers better.

THE BEST JEWELER!
One AMAZING thing Cmdr. Abrashoff did to change company culture was to change how people greeted one another. Previously, when sailors would see each other they would look down. What Cmdr. Abrashoff did was to instruct
his men that if they saw ANYONE walking on the ship they must go up to them, shake there hand and say "Welcome to the Best Damn Ship in the Navy!"
GENIUS! Imagine if you had all your employees start out each day saying to each other "Welcome to the best damn jewelry store in America!" Your whole day would be more positive. More productive. You could even greet customers saying "Hello. Welcome to the Best Jeweler in California"
Just look at this sign from Krispy Kreme donuts. They claim to be the best.....You c an too!!
The more you claim something is true, the more you convince yourself it is true, and the more it becomes true! The more you claim to be the world's best jeweler, the more you and your staff will start acting like it!
