From the Principal

Dear Normandale Families,
Lots of water under the bridge the past two weeks at Normandale, but only one day of indoor recess! Like a meteorologist, I am putting a few things on your radar:
Breakfast. Students in grades 1- 5 can purchase and eat breakfast before school in the cafeteria. Students in Kindergarten have access to FREE breakfast in their classrooms. This breakfast option is managed by the Kindergarten teachers and is paid for by the state of MN.
| |
Classroom Information Night. Classroom Information night for all grade-levels is scheduled for September 15th from 5:30-7:00 PM. This event is for parents/guardians only. Teachers will be presenting grade-level information about expectations, procedures, curriculum, etc. at two sessions: 5:30-6:10 PM and 6:20-7:00 PM. Sessions are identical so parents can attend either time or attend the first session for one child and the second session for another child. Please note: these are presentations and not an open house, so please plan to arrive at the start of the session and stay for the entire time. The rooms where the grade levels will be located are:
- Kindergarten - ECC Room 348
- First Grade - ECC Room 351
- Second Grade - ECC Room 350
- Third Grade - ECC Room 349
- Fourth Grade - ECC Room 303
- Fifth Grade - ND Auditorium

Nurse Mary Shelton Memory Book and Fund. Mary Shelton's family has established a fund to help her middle school-aged son, David. If you would like to contribute to this fund for David, please make your check payable to Barbara Shelton (Nurse Mary's sister) and mail it to: Barbara Shelton, 4557 Pillsbury Ave S., Mpls, MN 55419. We would also like to compile a memory book honoring Nurse Mary for her son David. If you or your student(s) have a Nurse Mary photo, drawing, story, poem or other item you would like to share with her son David, please do the following:
- Submit your contribution to the memory book on a sheet of 8 ½ x 11 paper.
- Drop your contribution to the memory book at the Normandale office.
Submit your contribution to the memory book to the Normandale office by Sept. 30.
-Oskar the Therapy Dog. A Normandale parent has a therapy dog that worked with students during summer school (kids read-aloud to Oskar and he listened). Oskar is ADORABLE and kids respond really well to him. Oskar is visiting several classrooms at Normandale this school year. On the days he is working at Normandale he will spend some time in the "Zone Calme" on the playground with his owner. If you do NOT want your student to pet and/or be around Oskar please email me at chris.holden@edinaschools.org, so I may alert his owner and our recess staff.

Fall Fundraiser Underway
|

The Club's Choice Fundraiser is underway!
We hope to raise $30,000 to help fund our extraordinary French intern program. Club's Choice is based out of Eau Claire, WI and has a great selection of frozen food (pizzas, cookie dough, gourmet breads and other frozen offerings) plus kitchen items, snacks, gift items and a large selection of Innisbrook wrapping paper.
Today your child should have brought home an envelope containing two catalogs, an order form, information page and the prize poster. The prizes are cumulative and are based on the number of items sold. Prizes will come with your products in November.
*Students who sell 25 items or more (40 items for multiple children in the same family) will earn a LIMO RIDE and Pizza Lunch!!*
We encourage you and your child to ask neighbors, relatives, co-workers and friends to help support our school by making a purchase. You can also invite out of town friends and family to purchase items online.
Please collect payments upfront (payable to: Normandale PTO) and return it with your order form by October 7th. The items will arrive November 9th for distribution. If you encounter people who would prefer to donate directly to the school without purchasing anything, they can write a check payable to Normandale PTO. The fundraiser runs September 9 - October 7, 2016.
We appreciate your participation!
