Drop-off and Pick-up Procedures
With the arrival of fall, bad weather can't be far behind! As the weather worsens, our traffic at student drop-off and pick-up times increases.
For the safety of all of our students, we ask that all parents dropping off or picking up students at the beginning and end of the day follow these procedures:
- Students should only be dropped off or picked up in the circle at Door 10. We are not able to supervise any other exit of the building or the parking lot.
- Please pull all the way forward in the circle to efficiently move more vehicles in and out. Do not stop at the bottom of the stairs.
- Students must always exit or enter the vehicle on the sidewalk side of the car so they are not stepping into the traffic lane of vehicles exiting the circle.
- Parents should remain in their car and pull into the exit lane as soon as their child is safely on the sidewalk. Say your goodbyes before pulling into the circle. Please do not linger to watch them go inside the school as other parents are waiting their turn to drop off their child.
- If your child needs help or you wish to spend more time with them, please park your car in the lot and walk them across the crosswalk to the sidewalk.
- Do not park in or block the handicap parking spaces unless you have a handicap permit.
- Cars should line up along the side of the parking lanes so as not to block others from going in and out of the lot.

Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe!

Health Screenings
|
The two senses that are vital to our child(ren)'s school experience are seeing and hearing. Testing these senses is an easy process and the more volunteers we have the smoother the process goes.
Please consider signing up for the annual health screening on Tuesday and Thursday, November 3rd and 5th. No experience necessary.
Four shifts available - take one shift or more! Sign up here.

Art Adventure
|

Registration is now open for Art Adventure!
Students in grades 3 through 5 are invited to participate in Art Adventure. This free program will be held six times during the year, starting in November. There will be one program per month, taking place over the lunch hour (actually 45 minutes).
Participants will learn about a work of art at each session while enjoying a brown bag lunch brought from home. A related art project will also be offered. Programs are led by parent volunteers.
About Art Adventure
Art Adventure is an art appreciation program for students in grades 3-5 based on original paintings, sculpture, textiles, and photographs from the collection at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. This year's theme is Amazing Animals in Art.
The Art Adventure program is a great foundation for discovering and understanding art through creativity, critical thinking and global awareness. We don't tell the children about the the art, but rather ask them questions like "What do you see?" "Why do you think they did that?" "What do you think that means?" to create a discussion and help them develop their own answers.
Click here to view a short video explaining the Art Adventure program.
How do I register my student?
To participate, please sign up your student using our googledoc. Please note, we need to limit Art Adventure to 20 students per grade.

Volunteer Help Needed |

We have two critical volunteer positions that remain unfilled. Without faithful volunteers, these fabulous programs disappear. Please consider donating your time to one of the following roles:
Scholastic Book Fair Coordinator Shadow
(follow along this year, take over for next next year)
Our winter fundraiser combines a love of reading with raising money. Students, staff and families shop the book fair during school hours or on a designated evening. Work with Scholastic and recruit other parents to plan, set up, sell and pack up the event. Time commitment: 5-10 hours per month prior to event, 15-20 hours the week of the event.
Junior Great Books Coordinator
Junior Great Books is an optional program for students in grades 2-5 who love to read and explore literature in English. Students read a story and meet with a leader during lunch/recess once per week (Jan - March) to discuss the story. The Coordinator manages registration and orders/distributes materials to the students. Time commitment: 10 hours in Nov and Dec, 5 hours in early January. Easy to do from home!
For more information, contact Jen Haenel, Volunteer Coordinator.

Edina Parent Communication Network (PCN) Presents:
GIST The Essence of Raising Life-Ready Kids
Monday, October 26, 7:00-9:00pm
In GIST The Essence of Raising Life-Ready Kids, psychologist Michael Anderson and pediatrician Tom Johanson take parenting into a new paradigm. Raising children has never been more challenging as parents feel the stress of watching their children grow up not ready for life in the adult world.
GIST will give new and valuable insight into the process of how kids mature through their experiences of life, what the authors call a "checklist to adulthood."
You will be given new ways to think about:
- learning and anti-learning
- self-esteem
- minimizing shame
- understanding self-protective behavior
- over-talking to your kids
- the importance of truth-telling
