Dear Normandale Families,
This month marks the beginning of two new authentic leadership opportunities for Normandale's 5th grade students.
Food Drive
In conjunction with Normandale's Family Service Night on October 22, Normandale 5th graders are facilitating a food drive. This week a representative from The The Food Group (formerly Emergency Foodshelf Network) spoke to all 5th grade classes about their mission and what it takes to run a food drive. Using this information, our 5th grade students will be creating a brief presentation in French about Normandale's food drive, which they will then share with all classrooms at Normandale. It will be fun to see and hear the results of our 5th graders hard work over the next few weeks!
School Safety Patrol
Even though Normandale is not a neighborhood school, there are areas of the building that could use a school safety patrol presence for walkers. Allyson Dardis (Normandale GT Math Teacher) will be working with interested 5th graders to form a school safety patrol at Normandale. Initially, their efforts will be focused on the crosswalk between Normandale and the parking lot at the end of the day.
Both of these leadership and community service opportunities fill a real need at Normandale and in our community. Stay tuned for more information!

Family Service Night
|
Please make plans to come and join us on Thursday October 22nd from 6:00-7:30pm for Normandale's first annual Family Service Night. We are hoping to have many families help us make a positive impact in our community. What a wonderful way to teach our children about the value of helping others.
The following service stations will be set up in the auditorium for those who volunteer:
We will also be doing a food drive the week of October 19th - 23rd. Kids are encouraged to bring non-perishable items to school during the week. The Food Group will be providing drop off barrels that will located throughout the school.

Pinstripes Adult Fundraiser

French Connections Adult Fundraiser November 7, 2015, 7:00pm
Pinstripes - 3849 Gallagher Drive, Edina
Don't miss the biggest fundraising event of the whole year! Last year we had a lot of fun while raising a lot of money to support our fabulous French intern program. Visit the Pinstripes fundraiser site for all the details. Here are some ways to get involved and help us raise funds:
DONATIONS ARE NEEDED FOR SILENT AUCTION, MYSTERY BOXES & SPIN THE BOTTLE
We need lots of donations to make this year's event a success. Some ideas include: kids activities,
getaways (travel/hotel), restaurants, spa or salon, technology items, services, art, event tickets, golf, etc. Or, let us do the shopping for you! Monetary donations appreciated & welcome. Submit your donations here.
HOST A COMMUNITY CONNECTION
This is a great way to build new friendships and make connections within the Normandale community. Each Community Connection is a scheduled social activity for a limited number of individuals to attend. We encourage hosts to choose a favorite hobby or activity to share with others. Click here for event ideas and to get involved.
Merci beaucoup for your generous support of our school!

Normandale Neighborhood Network |

The intern Neighborhood Network is all set and ready to go!
What is it?
The Neighborhood Network (NN) is a resource for our interns to reach out and ask the Normandale community for rides. Just in time as we start to feel that chill in the air!
If you've signed up to be a part of the NN in SignUp Genius or at the school open house in August, you are already on the list. You will start to see requests from interns in your e-mail soon.
Want to join in the fun? Click here to be added to the Normandale Network request list. If each Normandale family gave just ONE ride a year, the interns would feel fully loved by all our families. And your family wins as well: get to know who is working at your child's school while sneaking a peek at what the 20-something crowd is up to these days.
There's more! In addition to the traditional e-mail requests, the Neighborhood Network is also on Facebook. If you're on Facebook and would be open to taking ride requests via a private group page, find us at Neighborhood Network for Edina Interns and ask to join. Consider also using this page to post places you're headed (like MOA on Saturday afternoon) - maybe an intern would love to catch a lift!
And one last thing...You can now find all the interns' email addresses on the MySchoolAnywhere online directory. You can find them by either searching their name by family or by classroom. Feel free to reach out and welcome them into your home for dinner or bring them along on your next family outing!
Merci to all for your kind support of our interns so far this year!

From the District |
Elementary teams continue planning on schematic designs
The core planning teams (CPT) for each of the elementary schools resumed meeting this week. The first two meetings of the elementary CPTs were held collectively to develop criteria that would be consistent across all elementary schools. This week the teams met by site to discuss ways to improve learning and activity spaces at their individual site. The teams hope to finish their recommendations later this month. To learn more about facilities planning at the elementary schools and follow along on the progress of the CPTs, visit the district website.
