Spring Break (No School)

From The Principal

What is the most important meal of the day?  Breakfast!  What meal will Normandale be serving to interested students after spring break?  Breakfast!

Normandale staff and Chartwells have collaborated to put together a breakfast program for families desiring this option.  Chartwells staff will begin serving breakfast to students in grades 1-5 in the cafeteria beginning April 6.  Kindergarten students will have the option of getting and eating breakfast in their classrooms beginning April 20.

If you want your student to eat breakfast at school here is what you need to know/do:

  • Breakfast will be available for students in grades 1-5 from 8:20-8:30 AM beginning April 6.  Students taking breakfast should go DIRECTLY to the cafeteria from the bus or parent drop-off.
  • Breakfast will be served to students in grades 1-5 in the cafeteria.
  • Breakfast will be served to kindergarten students in their classrooms beginning April 20.
  • Breakfast is free for kindergarten students (new legislation) and for students on Free and Reduced Priced meals.
  • Cost for all other students is $1.45 plus $.60 for milk.
  • If you do NOT want your student to eat breakfast at Normandale, you can BLOCK it in your PAMS account
  • Students may take un-opened/un-eaten items back to their lockers for snack.
  •  The breakfast menu can be accessed here.

Each breakfast will consist of:

  • Whole grain muffin or cereal
  • Whole fruit (apple or banana) and fruit juice
  • Yogurt or string cheese
  • Milk

Bon appetit!

Chris Holden, Principal

Next Generation Schools

Preparing for the Next Generation of Edina Public Schools requires the engagement of all our stakeholders -- students, families, community and district staff. Normandale families are invited to a presentation and conversation about the how the upcoming Facilities Bond Referendum aligns with our district strategic efforts to advance our Edina Excellence and personalize learning for all students. On March 24 at 7:00 PM in the Normandale auditorium Normandale families will hear from Superintendent Dressen and other district leaders about the components of the facilities plan, details on how referendum dollars would be spent, and, should the referendum pass, the design process and opportunities for input. There will also be time for questions and dialogue. More information about the 2015 Bond Referendum can be found on the Edina Schools website.

Vide-Grenier Results

The recent vide-grenier (Garage Sale for Haiti) raised $1,244.38! This week, the 3rd grade students voted on a Google form (using their Chromebook) to designate how the money will be used.

Here is how the money will be allocated through the COFHED website:
  • TWO dairy cows will provide milk and more offspring. It's like a saving account for a family. (Two cows  at $438/each)
  • ELEVEN large hens  - A gift of a hen can provide a boost to a family's nutritional status as well as income. (11 hens at $10/each)
  • FOUR goats or sheep - The gift of a goat or sheep helps an elementary student in a rural community pay for tuition. Once a student receives a goat or sheep, the offspring are sold and the profit is used to pay tuition fees and books. (Four goats at $63/each)

BRAVO 3rd graders, you are making a global difference!!!

Normandale Carnival 2015

Congratulations Jennifer Wilson and Family!

Because Jennifer donated early to the Carnival Raffle Baskets, she is not only registered for the Dinner and a Movie Raffle, she is the first winner of our weekly prize for early donations! YOU could be next week's winner if you donate early as well! Thank you to the families who have donated already. We are on our way! (Please click the link below to donate.)

And remember, the Carnival fundraiser is key to our intern program. In order for this event to be a success, we need help from each and every family. The raffle baskets are the highlight of the Carnival for many of the kids. To help purchase items for the baskets, we are asking that every family contribute a suggested donation of $10 per student.

We have set up a special raffle item for those who contribute their $10 per student donation by April 10th. If you click on the link below and make your donation by the 10th, you will automatically be entered into a special raffle to win DINNER AND A MOVIE! Or, if you have personal connections to fabulous items that could be used in the raffle baskets, please let us know that as well. Do you have a fabulous convertible you could drive kids to school in? Think outside of the box. If kids will love it, we will take it! If you choose to donate items instead of cash, you will be entered into the date night raffle as well! Please contact Beth Kehoe or Lisa Ungerman at the email addresses below if you have a physical item you would like to donate. Thank you to those who have donated amazing items!

Donate to Raffle Baskets Here

Please consider making your contributions early. We have some great ideas for baskets this year. Each grade level will be working toward the purchase of a high-value item for the raffle. We hope to get a gumball machine, not a pack of Juicy Fruit! We would love for someone to win Taylor Swift tickets, not a CD of her latest songs! :)

Need Ad Space?

Own a business? Work for a business? Know anyone that does? We are now selling ad space in the 2015 Carnival brochure.  This brochure reaches over 600 Normandale families in our community and is a great place to promote a local business.  Plus, proceeds of sold ads go toward our event and our fantastic intern program here at Normandale! Please contact Tracy Schaeffer for details.

Thank you in advance for helping the Carnival be a success. We appreciate your generosity!

Beth Kehoe and Lisa Ungerman, Co-Chairs
