Vide-Grenier - Fundraiser for Haiti
|
Third grade students are planning and hosting the 4th annual VIDE-GRENIER (Garage Sale - Fundraiser) on Friday, February 13th for their service learning project.
This year, we would like to invite 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade families to donate items that will be sold. All proceeds will be used to help the community of Lougou, Haiti, through the organization COFHED (www.cofhed.org). If you would like to donate items for the Garage Sale, here are the guidelines:
- It can be something from your workplace such as old office supplies.
- No weapons or items of a violent nature (i.e., guns, swords, etc.)
- No stuffed animals
- Only E or G rated CDs, DVDs and game disks
- No broken toys or toys with missing parts
- No items that require trying on (ice skates, soccer shoes, etc.)
- If items have multiple parts, please label the items (tell us what they are) and put them all in a clear plastic bag so parts do not get misplaced
- Books appropriate for ages K-5 in any language are acceptable.
Please bring your donations to any third grade teacher the week of February 9th. MERCI! |

Authors to Visit Normandale |
February is I Love to Read Month!
February is a great month to read where ever you are! Here at Normandale many students will have the opportunity to be inspired to read by visiting with an author or illustrator.
Fourth grade students will have a discussion with author William Durbin about his book, "Winter War." William is an award winning author who calls Lake Vermillion home. The students are experiencing this book as a read aloud in their English Language arts classrooms.
Mr. Durbin will discuss his research process and share his primary resources of interviews with soldiers who served as part of Finland's Civil Guard against Russia in 1939. The students will also have the opportunity to see his photos and how he created his story. Mr. Durbin will be at Normandale on February 11th at 11:00 am.
Michael Hall is a local author/illustrator who will speak with the 1st and 2nd graders. He is a New York Bestseller author of the book, "My Heart is Like a Zoo." Mr. Hall has a new released book, entitled, "Red- A Crayon's Story." Normandale is excited to learn how he creates his clever stories on February 19th at 2:00 pm.
