Kindergarten Sibling Preference

Incoming Kindergarten Sibling Preference for 2015/16 School Year

For current Normandale families with a child who will be kindergarten age by September 2015, please remember that to receive "sibling preference" for Normandale, you must notify the district office by 6:00 pm on January 12, 2015.

You should have already received your mailing from the district. Instead of an envelope this year, it is a 5-fold cardstock brochure with the "pink" Program Preference Form as one of the panels. There are different options this year for submitting your information:

1) You can tear this "pink" page off and mail it in. The mailing address is pre-printed for you. You will receive an email confirmation that it has been received.

2) You can drop it off at the Student Enrollment Office on the first floor of the Edina Community Center.

3) You can fill it out online. The web address is listed on the pink page. You will receive a message that your form has been submitted.

Information turned in after the deadline will be dated and numbered in the order received, and placed at the end of the waitlist if a lottery is necessary. If you should have any questions about the process, please contact the Normandale office at 952-848-4100

As you know, our wonderful interns are already here. We are still in need of two families to host interns from January 2015 - June 2015. Yes, the interns that our children enjoy learning from every day are housed by Normandale and Valley View Extended French families and we're currently two families short for spring 2015. If you're interested and would like to learn more please contact Kris Wetmore or Anne Jennen.

Pinstripes Event a Success!

What a great night! Over $43,000 was raised (it's still coming in!) for our French Intern Program!!

What a wonderful night we had last Saturday night, socializing with our fantastic immersion community while raising money for our intern program.

The auction site is still open to sign up for remaining Community Connections until Sunday, Nov. 23. Check out what is left! If you attended the event, go through the personalized link that was sent to you via text. If you were not able to attend, visit this link.

We want to thank everyone that contributed to the success of this evening! First and foremost, THANK YOU to the tremendous committee that dedicated countless hours to put on this great event. We also want to thank everyone who donated goods, services, Community Connections or money to support the evening -- your generosity is greatly appreciated! And of course, we want to thank all of those who were able to attend the evening, since without people there, it wouldn't be successful!

We are so lucky to be part of such a great immersion family. This fundraiser is key to making our intern program world-class! We should be proud to call this home!

Sincerely,

Karen Epple and Annie Heitzmann

VALLEY VIEW MIDDLE SCHOOL THEATER PRESENTS

The Phantom Tollbooth

By Susan Nanus

Based on the book by Norton Juster

Valley View Middle School students in 8th and 9th grades will perform "The Phantom Tollbooth" at the Edina Performing Arts Center on December 4, 5, and 6 at 7:00 pm.

Milo is always bored with everything, until one day a mysterious package arrives. In it is a tollbooth that takes Milo to the Land of Wisdom. Milo meets the Watchdog, Tock, who protects time from being wasted. Together, the two must rescue Dictionopolis and Digitopolis from the chaos that has descended since the Princesses Sweet Rhyme & Pure Reason were banished to the Land of Ignorance. In the end, Milo learns the true value of time and learning.

Tickets are general admission only and are $6 for students and seniors and $8 for adults. Tickets will be sold in the VVMS cafeteria during lunch on December 4 and 5 and through the EPAC box office one hour prior to show time. Doors open at 6:30 pm.

If you would like more information, please contact Buffi Robinson or Elizabeth Chaigne

Plan the Future of the Former Public Works Site

Exploration Session: Thursday, December 4, 7-9pm

Edina Community Center, Room 303

We will renew the conversation for the future of this vacant 3.3-acre site on Eden Avenue and discuss how a combination of both public and private uses could be included on the site. Participants will have the opportunity to identify strengths, weaknesses and opportunities for the site. All are invited to attend. Bring your ideas and suggestions!

This is the first of several community discussions about the re-use of this site. Visit the City of Edina website for more information.
