Teacher Bio: Meet Monsieur Goss
|
Monsieur Wilson Goss was born and raised in warm and sunny Los Angeles, California and had never seen snow until it piled two feet high outside his Minneapolis home in November of 2012. This is Monsieur Goss' (not Gross, though working with Kindergarteners he is well accustomed to gross) 5th year in immersion elementary education. He began his career as an educator fresh out of Tulane University in New Orleans with a Master of Arts degree in French Literature and Francophone Studies. He also holds a double BA in English and French Literature, and is currently working on his Master of Arts in Teaching at Hamline University in St. Paul.
After a year working in an urban French immersion school in New Orleans, he and his wife and two cats moved to Oakland, California where he worked at a private tri-lingual Montessori school in an Upper-Elementary (9-14 years old) classroom. Just a year later, he moved to Minneapolis - where his wife was beginning a Ph.D. in Evolutionary Biology at the U of M - and became one of the founding teachers of the first self-governed school in the state of Minnesota where he also wrote the first grade French Language Arts curriculum. Monsieur Goss then became a long-term sub in Edina where he had the pleasure to work both with elementary students and middle school students. Monsieur Goss is very happy to be back full-time at Normandale in Kindergarten.
In his spare time, Monsieur Goss enjoys reading, hiking, backpacking, camping, travelling in general, jogging around the Minneapolis lakes, spending time with his wife and his cats lounging in the sun on their balcony, and playing guitar and banjo informally with friends.

Innisbrook Fundraiser Underway |
The Innisbrook gift wrap fundraiser is underway! We hope to raise $15,000 to help fund our extraordinary French intern program.
Today your child should have brought home a packet of information that includes a catalog, an information page and order form/envelope. In the back of the catalog there is a list of prizes your child can earn based on the number of items sold. We encourage you and your child to ask neighbors, relatives, co-workers and friends to help support our school by purchasing high quality gift wrap, chocolates, jewelry, gourmet food items and other accessories. Most people find it is easiest to collect payment as people place orders, as you will need to submit the full amount when the sale ends. The items will arrive the week before Thanksgiving.
If you encounter people who would prefer to donate directly to the school without purchasing anything, they can write a check to Normandale PTO.
The fundraiser runs now through October 2nd. We appreciate your participation!

Normandale Learning Specialists
|
Bonjour! We are your Normandale Learning Specialists! We are part of a child's teaching team and we work in collaboration with your child's classroom teacher to accelerate student learning of identified students in the areas of Reading and Math. Students are identified to work with the Learning Specialist based on either their results of testing from the previous year's teacher or results of testing on MAP tests given in the beginning of the school year.
Student progress is monitored by the Learning Specialists and the child's teacher. This progress is communicated to parents on a regular basis. This progress monitoring ensures that we are matching the appropriate support services with each child. We are also an additional resource to you as parents! Look for us to regularly post resources in La Liaison that you can use at home to help your children grow in reading.
Our first resource we have to offer you is a list of 100 books to read aloud to your children from preschool through elementary school. There are also tips for making the most of your read aloud time together. These brochures can be found by the sign-in book in the Normandale Office. If you have questions or if you are looking for resources, please don't hesitate to contact us via phone or email. We look forward to talking with you!
