From the Principal

Dear Normandale Families,
I have been busy lately visiting classrooms sharing my "hopes and dreams" for the school year with students. In short, my hopes and dreams for all students are that they take advantage of Normandale's unique learning opportunity and that they have fun learning in French. These hopes and dreams do not occur spontaneously. They require effort from staff and students alike. Next week Normandale staff will continue their work with best practices in immersion. They will determine which of seven best practices they will focus on for the year. On the student side, I have been asking students to apply themselves, to speak French and to follow the lead of their teachers. Together, I am hopeful that my hopes and dreams for our students will be realized this school year.
Ultimately, whenever you talk with students about having fun the conversation gravitates to recess. This week some of our fourth and fifth graders tried out the fields south of the parking lot for some football fun. While many students love large motor activities like football, other students prefer more imaginative play at recess. For those students, "trinkets and treasures" from home are welcome at recess. What are "trinkets and treasures?" They might include action figures, Pokemon cards, stuffed animals, books, notebooks, etc. Please do not allow your student to bring an item to school that has real or sentimental value; items get lost and school is not responsible for lost items.

Sessions are identical so parents can attend either time or attend the first session for one child and the second session for another child. Please help support this fun event by driving or making chili or salad.
The French Intern overnight is coming up September 12-13 and we are looking for a few more volunteers. Drivers will leave from Normandale right after school on Friday. Another way to help is to drop off food that we will serve during the overnight.
Please sign up to donate food or drive on our Google doc
Thank you very much for your support! If you have any other questions, please contact Kimberly Whalen.
