Principal's Weekly

Dear Normandale Families,

This year has been exceptional in so many ways. I feel privileged to have worked with this team of teachers, parents, students and staff.

I attended a luncheon on Wednesday with Lily Schroeder, the first principal of Normandale, who hired Maureen Curran-Dorsano, Chris Holden and me over 20 years ago. We are all still passionate about French immersion!

There is one more glorious week to enjoy with students and I thank you in advance for the joy of spending time with your children. The Normandale experience has fostered their ability to create opportunities for themselves and I believe has set the course for exceptional futures!

It's all good,

Gerry Lukaska

Calling All Normandale Library Books

All books checked out from the Normandale Media Center are now due. Please help your student(s) return books to the media center. The Media Staff is preparing for year-end inventory. If your family is missing a book please call to discuss costs to replace the books. We have also sent home notices with students this week.

Thank you for a great year and we will be open for checkout next school year. It is great to work with students and teach the joy of reading and life-long learning.

Thank You Media Center Volunteers

Normandale is very fortunate to have people who work behind the scenes that really help to keep our media center organized and ready each day- Volunteers. The entire staff relies on the volunteers who come in and help with shelving books, dusting, pulling books for displays or topics that teachers need in their classroom. We honor these volunteers for giving us many hours of their time. They are a valuable part of the success of the media program. Thank you for your continued support; we really could not have completed the work load without you! We hope you come back next year; others are also welcome to join!

Thank you to the following Media Center Volunteers who have helped throughout the year: Michelle Langefels, Susan Tietjen, Anne Jennen, Sue Holmes, Traci Doyle, Helene Roback, Jennifer Niemeier, Irina Linder, Nancy Sparano, Jean Bonneville, Margaret Day, Nackey Piedrahita and Andrea Delrue (she has digitized our RDR Chapter Book Section in French!)

Merci! Merci! Merci Beaucoup!!!

Note from NLT/PTO Team

Dear Normandale Families,

During the month of April, the Normandale Leadership Team (NLT) invited Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) members to apply for the vacant At-Large position. Mark Murray III was the sole applicant and will therefore represent the PTO as the incoming At-Large member. As the outgoing Co-President of the PTO, it is my honor to welcome Mark to the NLT. In his application for the position, Mark wrote "Having an active presence in our school demonstrates to our children that their education is a top priority, and in return helps them to engage in a more meaningful way."  Please join me in welcoming Mark to the leadership team.

I would also like to thank Intern Committee lead Anne Jennen as she assumes the role of Co-President of the PTO (in collaboration with Tracy Pearson). Anne has been a dedicated parent volunteer and key member of the Intern Committee. She brings a wealth of experience, relationships, and organizational skills to this leadership position. Please join me in supporting Anne as she prepares to lead the important work of Normandale's PTO and leadership team.

Finally, I would like to thank everyone in the Normandale community for helping to make our fundraising events such a spectacular success this year. The PTO is in a very healthy financial position as we wrap up the 2013-14 school year, and it is a tribute to the excellent volunteers and the generous participation of so many in our community. Thank you for helping us reach our goals in support of our teachers and our students!

Happy Summer!
Eric Schneider
PTO Co-President (outgoing)

Edina Boys Basketball Skills Camp

The Edina Basketball Skills Camp is a unique instructional school for basketball players who have completed grades K-9.

The camp is directed and coached by Joe Burger, the Edina Boys Basketball Head Coach, EHS assistant coaches Chris Hopkins, John Runyon and Zach Makray, as well as numerous past and present Edina varsity basketball players. Advanced and beginner players practice the step-by-step and repetitive techniques that will build individual basketball skills. The competitively low cost, low coach to player ratio and our vested interest in the player's improvement are the factors that make this camp the best summer basketball camp available. Parents are welcome to come and watch. If you have any questions please call Coach Burger at 612-237-9694
