Principal's Weekly
|
Dear Normandale Families, It's been a fabulous year and I have so many glorious "souvenirs," which in French means memories. The students' Grand Spectacle performances were extraordinary. The French language and collaborative-teaming excellence confirmed all the benefits of second-language learning. I couldn't have been prouder of all the Normandale teachers and students. Parents will be notified as the videos are uploaded to our website. It's a time to celebrate all the successes and thank the many who have made it all possible. So my hat goes off to all the parent volunteers who are still actively engaged in planning end-of-the-year celebrations and Field Day. My deepest thanks go to all the students, parents and teachers who have remained flexible when life's events have unexpectedly taken teachers out of their classrooms. You have been compassionate and tolerant of change. One of the greatest lessons we teach children is the way we model handling day-to-day life. With gratitude,
Gerry Lukaska

All we will ask of you is to send one welcome email in mid-August and make a couple of follow-up calls during the year.
We need 50 families! Get involved, sign up before the end of the school year, and help us welcome our incoming Kindergartners! Merci!

Order School Supplies Now to Save Money
|
Early Bird Savings - save $10 per student if you order by June 30, 2014!
About School Supplies at Normandale
It is already to time to think of the 2014-15 school supplies. At Normandale, students are not given a school supply shopping list. Instead we pay into the school supplies fund and then the PTO orders supplies in bulk. This saves parents time/money, reduces waste and promotes sharing as part of our school culture. The supplies will be delivered to the classrooms the last week in July and in order to meet that timeline and minimize costs, we need payment from parents by June 30th so order now from the PTO website. (Whether you pay utilizing your PayPal account or with a credit card, you should receive an e-mail receipt from PayPal.)
- School Supplies
There will be a discount price of $25/student for supplies if purchased by June 30. Supplies purchased after July 1 will increase to $35/student.
- Recorders (for 2014-15 4th grade students only)
Mme Emerson requests that all fourth graders purchase a recorder for the year. These are for fourth grade families ONLY! She wants to ensure that the children are taught the correct way and this happens at the 4th Grade level at Normandale. Each is $8.00.
- Trapper Keepers (for 2014-15 4th & 5th students only)
This year students in grades 4 & 5 will pay an additional $10/student for a Trapper Keeper.
If you have any questions, please feel free to email the School Supply Coordinator Susan Sanda or call her: 952.922.8786. You may also contact the principal with scholarship/aid requests.

Edina Boys Basketball Skills Camp
The Edina Basketball Skills Camp is a unique instructional school for basketball players who have completed grades K-9.
The camp is directed and coached by Joe Burger, the Edina Boys Basketball Head Coach, EHS assistant coaches Chris Hopkins, John Runyon and Zach Makray, as well as numerous past and present Edina varsity basketball players. Advanced and beginner players practice the step-by-step and repetitive techniques that will build individual basketball skills. The competitively low cost, low coach to player ratio and our vested interest in the player's improvement are the factors that make this camp the best summer basketball camp available. Parents are welcome to come and watch. If you have any questions please call Coach Burger at 612-237-9694.
