Principal's Weekly
|
Dear Normandale Families,
Our incredible interns are preparing presentations about their "home" regions in France for all the classes to enjoy next week. For example, students will have the opportunity to take their passports and experience a specialty of Normandy with Alexis (intern in Mme Lecuyer's class) while learning how butter is made. They may also hear a story about prehistoric drawings found in the Caves of Lascaux from 4th grade intern Mlle Bendjeddon. Ask your children which region in France they would like to visit first and why. The result could generate some stimulating conversation! All of the staff and I are grateful for the creative and organizational genius of Maureen Curran-Dorsano and Sophie Toner who organize the month of Francophonie and the intern presentations.
Enjoy the melt and the sure coming of spring.
My door is always open,
Gerry Lukaska

French Magazines for your Students
|
Looking for French reading materials for your student(s) all year long?
Our contact Marie-Caroline Russell from Bayard Presse is offering the opportunity for parents to order magazines from France (in French of course) for students. A small catalog from Bayard/Milan with an order form will come home in your youngest Normandale student's backpack.
If interested please complete and send your orders to Marie-Caroline directly to ensure summer delivery. Her address is on the yellow order form. Not sure which one to order? Come to the media center to look at examples of all the different choices or contact Tracy Pearson, Media Specialist, at (952) 848-4121.
Put the fun of reading in French in your students' hands! Happy Reading!

The Carnival is Calling!
|
The Normandale Carnival is just a few short months away!
Save the date: Saturday, May 3rd.
It's a special gathering our kids look forward to from year to year and the proceeds help fund our award-winning intern program.
A number of parents have already volunteered to lead a carnival committee. Thank you!
Now, we need a volunteer coordinator to make our planning team complete. The volunteer coordinator monitors volunteer sign-up through an already-created online tool, spreads the word about carnival volunteer opportunities, and assigns/directs volunteers on the big day. It's a great way to get involved, serve the school, and meet the Normandale community.
Please email Kathy Tran or Emma Marshall-Cerqueira to volunteer for this position or to find out more.

Edina Boys Basketball Skills Camp
The Edina Basketball Skills Camp is a unique instructional school for basketball players who have completed grades K-9.
The camp is directed and coached by Joe Burger, the Edina Boys Basketball Head Coach, EHS assistant coaches Chris Hopkins, John Runyon and Zach Makray, as well as numerous past and present Edina varsity basketball players. Advanced and beginner players practice the step-by-step and repetitive techniques that will build individual basketball skills. The competitively low cost, low coach to player ratio and our vested interest in the player's improvement are the factors that make this camp the best summer basketball camp available. Parents are welcome to come and watch. If you have any questions please call Coach Burger at 612-237-9694.
Register online or call 952-848-3952.
