Principal's Weekly
|
Dear Normandale Families,
It's time for expressions of deep gratitude and I'm going to take my cue from the fifth grader who has shared her list this week (see article, below):
Ten things that make Normandale an exceptional school:
10. The wonderful messages from high school students who are eager to return to Normandale for their May term projects.
9. Lily Schroeder, the first principal of Normandale, sharing the history of the school with students and her wisdom with staff.
8. The grounds and maintenance staff that keeps our parking lot and building as accommodating as possible in all types of weather.
7. The talented parents who share their time and expertise in numerous ways including editing this newsletter weekly.
6. The happy energy of students sharing their projects that filled the auditorium during the Imagination Fair on Tuesday night.
5. Lunch/recess monitors who embrace their job and do their best to teach kindness and good decision making while keeping students safe (during a brutally COLD winter).
4. Anne and Karen at the front desk handling phones, requests and the coming and goings of 630 students daily in concert with 35 exceptional teachers.
3. Special partnership with Dr. Tara Fortune from the U of M and Dr. Roy Lyster from McGill University providing professional development for staff.
2. The best specialists (art, music, P.E., gifted and talented, media, special services, math and reading) who enrich students' experience with 100% support of immersion education.
1. The host families and committed Normandale Leadership Team intern committee providing 22 interns for Normandale and Valley View next year!
And I could go on and on. Maybe I will next week.
My door is always open,
Gerry Lukaska

Imagination Fair Wrap-Up

Imagination Fair - A Success!
Our 2014 Imagination Fair was full of creative, informative and amazing projects. We had 80 projects and 120+ student participants from all six grades.
Thank you to the participating students for sharing your creativity and hard work. Thank you to the Normandale teachers and staff for promoting the fair, and to the Normandale PTO for sponsoring the event. And last but not least, thank you to all parents for your support, and to parent volunteers for helping execute a fun and educational event for all!

Skateboarding in PE!
|
Skateboarding in PE for Grades 3-5 In preparation for skateboarding, students will dedicate some time to putting on safety gear in advance of actually using the skateboards. We have all of the safety gear necessary to ride safely. However, if you or child would like to bring in safety gear (helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads, and knee pads) or other items to use with the gear, please do so starting on March 10th. We will continue using the safety gear every day in PE until the unit is done on March 21st. I have put together a FAQ page, for anyone who might be wondering about the skateboard unit.
