Principal's Weekly

Dear Families,

This week I have only one quick reminder: Please make sure you've signed up for a conference with your children's teacher(s). Conference hours start on Monday, November 25th. Teachers may also have some conference time available the week of December 2 - December 6.

This week has been a very busy week and next week I'll have more details about the student newspaper, 5th Grade travel options and a review of the playground guidelines.

My door is always open,

Volunteers Needed - Very Flexible!

Looking for a way to volunteer in the school, but with a super flexible time frame?

Our wonderful art teacher, Leanne French-Amara, is looking for a few more Artsonia volunteers to take photos of artwork and load them onto our Artsonia site. The volunteers would use their own camera and home computer or just an iPad to do this. The easiest way is with an iPad: just photograph and upload artwork all in one. Parents can come into the school to photograph the assignments or take the artwork home.

Volunteers can help often or just once in a while. Mme French-Amara can train volunteers in after school. It's very easy and fun to do; just time consuming when there are over 600 students with lots of great art.

We are looking for two or more kindergarten helpers, and a least one additional helper each for grades 1-5. Sign up to help Mme. French-Amara and our students today!

WHO: Kids in grades K-5 (adults and older siblings welcome for free!)

WHEN: November 14, 7:30-8:15 AM

  • Bring your cups for stacking (or use ours)

Volunteers Needed for Innisbrook Distribution

20 Volunteers Needed for Innisbrook Wrapping Paper Distribution!

We are looking for volunteers to help unload the Innisbrook delivery truck on November 20th and to help distribute orders in the auditorium on November 21st, 22nd and 25th. Please use the Google sign-up document for dates and shifts. There will be some lifting involved for the truck delivery shift but we will have dollies to wheel the boxes into the auditorium. For the shifts involving product pick-up, children are welcome to help (along with a parent).

Feel free to sign up for more than one shift! Please contact Jennifer Scott or Beth Ann Monsen with any questions.  Thank you!

Let's Get this Party Started!

Bocce, Bowling, Dancing... A Night to Remember!

160 and Counting! That's how many of your fellow Normandale and Valley View parents have registered to attend the fundraiser at Pinstripes on Saturday, November 16!  They'll be there enjoying bocce and bowling, attempting the ring toss at the bottle bonanza, devouring good food, imbibing a signature French drink (and others), bidding on amazing auction items, signing up for Community Connection events, dancing and socializing. All that's missing is YOU! If you don't have your ticket yet, now is the time to buy.  Purchase your ticket and support our award-winning french immersion program!

Help us reach our goal of 300 attendees!

Can't Make it to Pinstripes?
Though we'd much rather have you there to join in the fun, if you can't attend in person here are some ways you can still make a difference:

1.  Donate a bottle for the Bottle Bonanza

This is a new addition this year, and sure to be a big hit!  It is a ring toss where you can try your luck and hopefully go home with your favorite beverage! The more bottles we collect, the more chances to win!
Drop off at: 5336 Kellog Ave or 4600 Casco
or make a monetary donation  and we'll do the shopping for you!

2.  Community Connections

Those who cannot attend the event will still have an opportunity to sign up for Community Connections via an online proxy bid system. Spots that remain after the fundraiser will be filled on a first-come, first-served basis. More information on this will be available next week.

Please contact Karen Epple or Kirsten Rewey with any questions.

New Staff Bio: Anne Anderson

I grew up in Minneapolis and now live in Edina with my husband Wes; children Nate (7th grade), and Emma (6th grade); and our dog Jasper. I have been a volunteer at Creek Valley Elementary for the past seven years, as well as a stay-at-home mom. Now that both of my children are at Valley View, I am excited to join the Normandale staff.

Our family loves traveling around the state and country with our pop-up camper. I've been to 49 of the 50 states and all the provinces of Canada - mostly by car. I love hiking, mountains, campfires, exploring new places, and planning our trips. I also enjoy singing (I sing on the worship team at my church), scrapbooking, organizing, and playing games.

Thank you for making me feel welcome at Normandale!

Give to the Max for Edina Ed Fund

Dear Friends of the Edina Education Fund,

November seems like a fitting time to show thankfulness and generosity. At the Edina Education Fund, we strive to support valuable education experiences and innovative projects in our schools through fundraising programs from generous supporters like you. That's why next week, on November 14th, we're participating in giveMN's 5th annual Give to the Max Day and hope that you will too.

For this one special day, would you please consider a tax-deductible financial contribution? To join us in this exciting opportunity, please look for our e-mail on November 14th with a special link for easy online giving.

GiveMN's Give to the Max Day amplifies your giving impact in a number of ways:

  • Two Golden Tickets! $1,000 will be given to two random donor's charities every hour over a 24 period. You could be that donor!
  • Put us on the Leader Board! Your donation on November 14th could place us on the leader board to win up to $10,000 for our non-profit.

Please donate to the Edina Education Fund on the GiveMN website.

GiveMN.org's online charitable website allows you to easily support the Edina Education Fund through secure credit or debit card donations, receive automated tax deductible receipts through email, and conveniently track and record your donations in a single online location.

Thank you for your support!
