Principal's Weekly

Important reminders for next week:

  • The School Board meeting Monday, October 21st at 7:00 PM includes a look at the value of our immersion education. My presentation is titled "Where are they now?" and highlights how graduates are applying their language skills after college.
  • SchoolView should include MAP testing results from grades 3-5 by the end of next week.

We've learned a lot about creative play on the playground and have now instituted more vigilant procedures to promote safer and more appropriate play. You'll see all of the playground/lunchroom monitors wearing red vests with EN CHARGE written on them. Children can easily identify the monitors when in need. Thanks to everyone for your communication regarding playground issues.

Enjoy this October break and the change of seasons.

As always my door is open and I appreciate your partnership,

A Message From The Health Office

A number of children have had "accidents" at school requiring a change of clothing. If you have borrowed clothes, please wash and return. You may send clothes for just your child as well that can be kept in their locker. The health office is out of girl underwear, and have just a few knit leggings left. If you have any to donate, that would be appreciated!

Host Families Thank You!

Thank You!

Thank you to the families the stepped up to help host for this spring. We have all the families we need for our interns; without families we wouldn't able to have our interns. We appreciate the families that open their homes for this great asset to our children's education.

Merci beaucoup!

Art Adventure

Registration is open for Art Adventure!

Students in grades 3 - 5 are invited to participate in Art Adventure. This free program will be held seven times during the year, starting in November. There will be one program per month, taking place over the lunch hour (actually 45 minutes). Participants will learn about a work of art at each session while enjoying a brown bag lunch brought from home. A related art project will also be offered. Programs are led by parent volunteers.

About Art Adventure

Art Adventure is an art appreciation program for students in grades 3-5 based on original paintings, sculpture, textiles, and photographs from the collection at the Minneapolis Institute of Arts. This year theme is Sources of Strength

How do you register your student?  To sign up your student please fill in this form. Note that there is one tab per grade (at the bottom of the workbook).

Please note that because of fewer volunteer presenters this year we need to limit Art Adventure to 25 students per grade.

New Staff Bio:  Curtis Morice

Bonjour Tout le Monde!

My name is Curtis Morice and I am a new paraprofessional this year for Normandale and I work in Krista Smedstad's kindergarten class. I am originally from St. Louis, Missouri but have lived in Minnesota now for nine years. I used to live in Annecy, France which is a town located in the Haute Savoie region. While there I was a garçon au pair and studied French. I have a passion for learning languages and adore working with children (basically because I am just a bigger version of the kids!) I also speak Spanish, a little Chinese and a little German, ohhhh I also speak un peu d'Anglais..mais pas trops.

I currently live in Highland Park with my four legged best friend Snorkleface (dog) and spend most of my free time with him and doing yoga. You can usually find me drinking good coffee and smiling. My motto has always been "
Life is far too important a thing ever to talk seriously about." I feel very blessed to have the opportunity to work here and am looking forward to this coming school year and hopefully many more to come.

PTO Dues Reminder

When should I pay my dues?

The time is now. Did you know that until we get a majority of dues and fees paid we cannot give funds to classroom parents to plan parties? Right now about 50% of parents have paid their dues and fees which cover room parties, field trips, directories, staff development, the intern program and more. This also is your chance to order a yearbook.

Please make every effort to pay in a timely fashion so we can figure out finances for the year. To pay using PayPal click here.  Or you can print off a dues form and put a check in the PTO Treasurer box in the front office.

If you are uncertain as to whether you have paid your dues please email Tim Armbrustmacher
