This week's survey
(These survey questions are sent in by our readers. Please spend a minute to give your answer to this week's survey as one or possibly more of your industry peers thinks this question is important and wishes to see your point of view as well as others in the industry.)

Last week's survey results...

Do you feel that vehicle wrapping is becoming too competitive with prices dropping as a consequence?

  • We rarely get any 'wrapping jobs', but plenty of other work. We know how much time it takes to do a good job, so other sign people must be doing it pretty cheap? Its a shame as its just another factor driving down the hourly rate needed to sustain a profitable business.
  • Definitely. Some shops out there are doing the colour change wraps at close to cost because they have no idea of the costs to run a successful business. They don't cover their insurance (some probably don't have any), they don't cover operating costs of the shop itself, and I've spoken to some that don't charge for their time. Some are doing it for beer money as a second job. It happens in all industries as 'cowboys' try to make easy money or learn on the job at a customers expense. It's made worse by the fact that the manufacturers have gone direct to the public with wrap materials as an accessory. It makes it appear that anyone can do it so it lowers our labour value and makes us look like we are making a killing when in truth, most of us are only making a reasonable margin.
  • I would have to agree with this, it is crazy some of the pricing that is charged and makes one wonder if some people know how to run a successful business. Also what short cuts do these people take to sustain those prices?

(As a publishing practice to protect ourselves from any potential liability, company and individual names that are referred to negatively in any of these comments are removed.

Smile: It's only Monday!

Paddy and Murphy are working on a building site.
Paddy says to Murphy "I'm gonna have the day off.
I'm gonna pretend I'm mad!"
He climbs up the rafters, hangs upside down and shouts "I'M A LIGHT BULB!
I'M A LIGHT BULB!"
Murphy watches in amazement!
The Foreman shouts "Paddy you're mad, go home"
So he leaves the site.
Murphy starts packing his kit up to leave as well.
"Where the hell are you going?" asks the Foreman.
"I can't work in the friggin' dark!" says Murphy.
