When having a purpose built application table made, what are essential features (eg.racks underneath, specific cutting surface etc)?
-
I made a cheap simple table with a plain zincalume sheet on the top. Surprisingly this was a good cutting surface. Ecery 5 years I replace the top. Being tin it is ideal with use to magnets. I use no other surface on my tables. Wheels at one end for easy moving when required. A fold away application roller on one end. (Brett Connelly)
-
Glass top is a good idea although my latest evolution has a cutting mat, lightweight frame so it can be moved easily for cleaning of the floor, mine has an area for all my rulers resting within reach from the side, and the service area is 1530mm x 3660 to cater for the width of the material I print to. Good light above is also a must. (Shane, Drew's Sign It)
-
I have just had one built to fit my Ezytaper. It is 3000mm x 1500mm. The frame was welded from Galv 1.6mm 50mm RHS with a shelf from 30mm RHS 2/3 from the top which has 18mm MDF covered with 3mm HDPE.The table has multi directional lock wheels attached to (4) 920mm legs. The whole project took my welder mate 7hrs to knock up. It used about 22 mtrs of 50mm, 5 cross members top and shelf of 30mm (10mtrs). I wish I had it made sooner having put up with hopelessly inadequate arrangements for 20 + years. Total cost including labour approx $650.00 By the way if you haven't got an EZY TAPER you are behind the game.(Alan, Dollar Signs)
-
I have always found that the table needs to be a good working size, we use 3600mm x 1800mm and on a good set of wheels so that it is easily moved around. We have 2 tables one with a metal signwhite surface and the other a self healing cutting matt. With regards to racks, shelving underneath I have always found these to be more of a problem than asset. Shelves and racks under these benches only become junk storage areas and weigh the table down with crap. (Steve, Steve Baker Signs)

IRISH MOOSE HUNTERS
Two Irishmen flew to Canada on a hunting trip. They chartered a small plane to take
them into the Rockies for a week hunting moose. They managed to bag six.
As they were loading the plane to return, the pilot said the plane could take only four
moose. The two lads objected strongly. "Last year we shot six. The pilot let us take
them all and he had the same type of plane as yours."
Reluctantly, the pilot gave in and all six were loaded. The plane took off. However,
while attempting to cross some mountains even on full power the little plane couldn't
handle the load and went down. Somehow, surrounded by the moose bodies, the three
men all survived the crash.
After climbing out of the wreckage, Paddy asked Mick, "Any idea where we are?"
Mick looked around him, "I think we're pretty close to where we crashed last year."
