Our last week's survey results...
|
Who has influenced your business the most, excluding anyone within your business and clients?:
-
Roland with its use ways of sign making
-
Seriously, it has been painters/signies in the Letterheads movement, much more than anyone else. As a whole, perhaps they have a different perspective or attitude, from the 'get it done - don't care what it looks like, and let's put a photo in the background' newbies of the last 10 or so years. Secondly, Mike Stevens' with his Mastering Layout book - once again, an old deceased Letterhead... :)
-
Being a Signwriter for over 40 years now, I would have to say the older tradies who not only employed me, but encouraged fellowship within the trade. Skills such as layout and readability which invites the viewer to take notice is a real art, even on the smallest sign. The Sign Association was a great vehicle for this and its a privilege to have known and seen and be inspired by their techniques and flair. Also the Letterheads who still wield the brush give inspiration that the art is loved and continues today. The layouts and designs of modern day digital signs, although different to traditional, still fascinate me. We can all learn from others and progress. Cheers Kevin Frost - Frost Signs

Addition to the survey on Skill Shortages:
I am a Signwriter of 30 years + but can't get work apart from a bit of part time. Got into the trade saying to myself " this is one job that will never be replaced by a computer." I have had two experiences of late doing some part time work for the type of "Signwriter" exactly what the survey spoke about. They have know equipment except for a printer/printers. One of them expected me to work outside doing all application work on two saw horses and a sheet of ply, while the guy next door was mowing the lawn. Even a wrap outside in the hot sun. No tools, not even a heat gun . An example of the other one l did some work for, purchased a A Frame that was supplied with pop rivets to put the panels on after the application. He asked me if you hit them in with a hammer! Cheers, James

Smile: It's only Monday!
This blonde wanted to sell her pet Python so, she listed it on eBay.
A bloke just rang up and asked if it was big.
She said, "It's massive."
He said, "How many feet?"
She said none - "It's a bloody Snake"!!..
