How high a priority is finding new wide format print markets?

Our last week's survey results...
|
-
Really this is a question best answered by your cost structure and business model and personal ethics. I have and still do supply to some of the local smaller signwriters (in full confidence) in our area and am happy to do so at a reduced wholesale rate allowing them to still mark it up considerably to make their own profit. I am also open to helping people out in times of difficulty if needed due to machine failures (we all know what that is like) as long as they are genuine (at cost plus 10-20% and would have to fit into our production schedule) as I hope the favor would be returned if we ever required assistance... (Steve, Steve Baker Signs).
-
If a printer is down and a site needs to purchase printing there is no fair markup. the purpose is to meet the expectations of the customer and supply within the original agreed time, cost and quality agreement. profit or loss from sourcing externally is not as important as maintaining the customer relationship.
-
If you are not normally a trade supplier, discuss it with the company who's machine is down. Ensure there is something in it for both parties. There could be a time when you need their help. What goes around, comes around.
- I like to develop relationships with my peers for this very reason, I can help them when they need it and they can help me when I need it. It's important to have back up when you are relying on technology that can and does go wrong. The customer is all important and he is generally not interested in your excuses.
(As a publishing practice to protect ourselves from any potential liability, company and individual names that are referred to negatively in any of these comments are removed. In addition we reserve the right to remove comments that are blatant advertising for one product or company)

Smile: It's only Monday!
One day a little girl was sitting and watching her mother do the dishes at the kitchen sink. She suddenly noticed that her mother had several strands of white hair sticking out in contrast on her brunette head. She looked at her mother and inquisitively asked, 'Why are some of your hairs white, Mum?' Her mother replied, 'Well, every time that you do something wrong and make me cry or unhappy, one of my hairs turns white.' The little girl thought about this revelation for a while and then said, 'Mummy, how come ALL of grandma's hairs are white?'
