How high a priority is finding new wide format print markets?

Our last week's survey results...

  • So-called "Moonlighting" happens in all professions. Police are renowned for it "moonlighting" as security guards. Teachers do private tutoring. I knew a leading supplier of X-Ray film who worked as a Radiographer on weekends and made more than his weekly wage. When I supplied pro photo gear years ago I was asked to shoot weddings on weekends by one of my customers and did that for cash. Yes, there have been supplier reps who operate Flatbed UVs eg after hours on the QT but, so long as they do not disclose another customer's confidential information, surely there is nothing untoward - it's just working hard to get ahead and pay the mortgage!
  • Not sure about today but years ago there were at least six in Sydney doing just that. In some cases they worked deals with production staff in sign shops to also install for them.
A few had Digital Printers and plotters in their garage at home.

  • I don't know any but I do know of signage companies importing their own stock and on selling it to other signage companies effectively moonlighting as suppliers - Strangely enough I don't hear of anyone complaining about that!
  • No, I don'y know any but I have heard stories and I am sure it goes on, they would be crazy to ignore the opportunity if it arises - we all need the extra cash. It does not necessarily worry me but it certainly would if I started to lose business as a consequence.

  • Yes, I know a few major suppliers. namely Canon, Fuji Xerox. Over the past 29 years, There have been many times in the past where our customers were approached and machines soled to them. We have lost some major accounts that way. They also run print shops in schools and other major organizations. This in my opinion is competing with their own customers (Mithra Samaranayake, TDC3 Print Centre)

Smile: It's only Monday!

.Flight Story

Airborne thirty minutes on an evening flight from Glasgow, the head flight attendant nervously made the following announcement:
"Ladies and gentlemen, I'm sorry, but it appears that there has been a mix-up by our airport catering service. I don't know how this has happened, but we have 103 passengers and, unfortunately, only 40 dinner meals. I apologise for this mistake and inconvenience."

When the passengers' muttering had died down, she continued, "Anyone who is kind enough to give up their meal so that someone else can eat will receive free, unlimited drinks for the duration of our 5 hour flight."

Her next announcement came 90 minutes later:
"If anyone would like to change their minds, we still have 40 dinners
