What are your major concerns as we go into a new financial year?

Our last week's survey results...

I was wondering how many of us use solar panels to offset the price of electricity costs in business?

  • I've been seriously considering it. We've got plenty of roof area facing due north, the majority of our electricity usage is during the day, and our current electrical bills total 12k per year. The only thing stopping me is the outlay.
  • Yes, we put panels up a couple of years ago and it has proven one of the best investments. The only irritation is that they need to be cleaned quite regularly as the electricity generated drops off over time with the dirt and grime that accumulates on them plus bird droppings. The rain helps to clean them but does not clean them properly - they need a good scrub and I am not climbing up there not at my age so we have to get people around about once very 6months to give them a good clean.
  • One of my biggest cost is electricity to run the Air/con. to keep my printer at the recommended temp. (FNQ). I have been investigating the possibility of a Solar Powered Air/Con. system. To date I have only found info on 48 Volt (truck type) A/C, I too would like know more info on Solar; A/c.
  • We have been looking at the pro's and con's for a while. Still undecided as I don't trust any of the figures I've been shown. The same system by similar suppliers promise all sorts of things, I've become a bit sceptical. Added to that my factory faces the wrong way for 100% solar benefit. At best I'll get 70% of the sun, meaning the benefits are greatly reduced versus the initial setup costs.
  • Yes installed a 30kw system a year ago. Works great and can see the difference in the power bills, with a 4-5 year pay off
  • Installed a 5.5kw system that has reduced our power bill from approx $700 per quarter to $200 for our Design & digital print studio. Great investment & marketing tool
  • Yes - the Feed in tarrif is pathetic, but the power offset while the sun shines, helps reduce our costs by 1/2, and it will have broken even on set-up costs in 3 years.
  •  We certainly do. We had a large array installed several years ago and actively measure and monitor the impact
  • One of the best investments you can make here in Queensland, coupled with solar hot water too. It adds value to the property as well.
