Last week's survey results...

To solve the skills shortages, shouldn't we train people for sectors of the industry rather than the whole industry?
-
We have been doing this for the past few years since finding trained signwriters is difficult. As well as a number of qualified signwriters we employ qualified graphic designers, a printing specialist, salespeople, and a builder/installer.
-
YES, I believe this will be the future of the Signwriter/Signmaker trade.
-
Wide format printing should be a subject in the overall print training, probably run by the commercial printing sector not the sign industry.
-
Makes a hell of lot more sense.. This way we can employ specialists and not Jack of All Trades (and Master of None).
-
Not so sure as we would have to employ more people to cover all our requirements and that would cost a lot more although it could help the unemployment problem. Probably a combination of both would be the best solution.
(As a publishing practice to protect ourselves from any potential liability, company and individual names that are referred to negatively in any of these comments are removed)

Paddy took 2 stuffed dogs to the Antiques Roadshow
"Ooh", said the presenter. "This is a very rare set produced by the celebrated Johns Brothers taxidermists who operated in London at the turn of the last century. Do you have any idea what they would fetch if they were in good condition?"
"Sticks", said Paddy
