Last week's survey results...

Who's happy they have converted to Latex inks?

  • I converted to Latex technology over 3 years ago and have not looked back. (Dean Rowland, Signwave Newtown)

  • YES and YES
  • We have had great results since moving to Latex 2 years ago. Positives - quick dry so use straight away, multi purpose indoor/Outdoor, no solvent smell. Negatives - can be soft and scratched easily at times, Can take a while to get correct media settings that work, Lack of machine back up service outside of Auckland. (Steve Harwood, Marathon Visual Media)
  • The ink is fine we just HATE our HP machine which has been sold to us as a lemon ..it has too many user design flaws & non compatible profiles & does not deliver as promised the machine has cost us time & money we are so disappointed as a customer.
  • We are happy with the latex ink technology in our production house however it's not a complete replacement to our previous printing options. Latex has certainly opened up doors that we were previously unable to get to with low cost uncoated medias, however there is some work that we still need to print via eco solvent/aqueous/UV direct so it compliments our plant to add more options for print media. The only thing we would hope for in future iterations of latex technology is the addition of green/orange/light black inks to increase colour gamut and vibrancy. (Jeremy Gibson, Ellar Graphics)
  • I dont have a problem with the latex ink so yes, i dont like my HP 260 machine that delivers it. this machine has the computer power of a 1990 atari and that is insulting an atari really cause they were great and the HP is a horses ass that takes up too much time and has too many design faults. (Rex Vizible, The Old Foundry).
  • Converted from Solvent to Latex and was pleasantly surprised. Best move we have ever made. (Jeff Unger. Addcolour Digital)
  • So far so good but the machine is totally different and more difficult to operate and uses heaps of heads. Onyx is a pain and does not do sample prints
  • Been very happy since changing over from a Roland to HP with latex inks due to the instant dry time (Chad, Politix Clothing)
  • Absolutely! The range of medias it can print to is excellent, and being able to use a print instantly is fantastic for production throughput and to get out of sticky situations like having to print part of a wrap that's being fitted. I still have 2 eco-solvent machines, but the Latex gets the bulk of the work.
  • I'm very happy! Hardly use the solvent machine anymore. With the 3rd generation of machines out now which address the shortfalls on the second generation, you would be foolish not to consider the benefits and buy one of these machines. Benefits are: Great colour, Low ink usage, low cost head replacement ($134.00 each) which last 10 times over their intended volume. Immediate to use dried prints, durable outdoors un-coated, prints on nearly all materials including un-coated fabric. NO SMELL! Virtually no down time. This is the future! (We have the HP) Why would you buy anything else?? (Peter Arman, Print Central)
  • Hells yeah! Gone are the days for hanging around waiting for outgassing. Who has time for that in this industry with "Need it Yesterday" demands. Especially with cast or wrap films where the adhesive can be affected by solvents creating applying and removal issues. Technology has given the industry a blessing here!
  •

Lonnie Donegan - My Old Man's a Dustman (Live) 1/6/1961

Interesting

In 1887 Alexander Tyler, a Scottish history professor at the University of Edinburgh, had this to say about the fall of the Athenian Republic some 2,000 years prior: "A democracy is always temporary in nature; it simply cannot exist as a permanent form of government. A democracy will continue to exist up until the time that voters discover that they can vote themselves generous gifts from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates who promise the most benefits from the public treasury, with the result that every democracy will finally collapse over loose fiscal policy, (which is) always followed by a dictatorship."

"The average age of the world's greatest civilizations from the beginning of history, has been about 200 years. During those 200 years, these nations always progressed through the following sequence:

From bondage to spiritual faith;
From spiritual faith to great courage;
From courage to liberty;
From liberty to abundance;
From abundance to complacency;
From complacency to apathy;
From apathy to dependence;
From dependence back into bondage."
The Obituary follows:

Born 1776, Died 2012
It doesn't hurt to read this several times.
Professor Joseph Olson of Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota, points out some interesting facts concerning the last Presidential election:

Number of States won by: Obama: 19 Romney: 29
Square miles of land won by: Obama: 580,000 Romney: 2,427,000
Population of counties won by: Obama: 127 million Romney: 143 million
Murder rate per 100,000 residents in counties won by: Obama: 13.2 Romney: 2.1

Professor Olson adds: "In aggregate, the map of the territory Romney won was mostly the land owned by the taxpaying citizens of the country.

Obama territory mostly encompassed those citizens living in low income tenements and living off various forms of government welfare..."

Olson believes the United States is now somewhere between the "complacency and apathy" phase of Professor Tyler's definition of democracy, with some forty percent of the nation's population already having reached the "governmental dependency" phase.

If Congress grants amnesty and citizenship to twenty million criminal invaders called illegals - and they vote - then we can say goodbye to the USA in fewer than five years.
