LearnPROGRESSIVE COLLAPSE ANALYSIS -
WHEN IS IT REQUIRED FOR A FEDERAL BUILDING? {VIDEO}

Do you have a federal building project where you need to determine if a progressive collapse analysis is needed? Are you aware of recent additions to redundancy requirements for federal structures?

During our March 2016 session, Implementation of the ISC Physical Security Design Requirements for Federal Buildings, Aldo McKay, PE, from Protection Engineering Consultants, offered guidelines to structural engineers for the progressive collapse analyses of federal buildings. During the session Aldo described ... read the full article and view the video clip from the March 2016 session.

InspireSURVEY FOR STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING EXAM - PROFESSIONAL ACTIVITIES AND KNOWLEDGE STUDY

Do you have an interest in providing input on the knowledge and skills that are needed for an engineer who wants to take (and pass) the Structural Engineering Exam? NCEES is making a survey available until May 1st, and they are looking for licensed engineers to participate in the survey to help update the specifications for the Structural Engineering exam.

This is not a short survey (the expected time to complete the survey is 45 minutes), but we know that some engineers may want to give their input on this topic. A description below is from the exam development engineer at NCEES.

To participate in the online survey, visit the NCEES Structural PAKS Survey. Responses must be received by May 1, 2016. Thank you for your help with this important study.

NCEES is currently seeking licensed professionals practicing structural engineering to participate in a professional activities and knowledge study, or PAKS, for the Structural Engineering exam. The results of this online survey will be used to ... read the full article on our blog.

CongratsSEU SPEAKER INSPIRES ORGANIZATIONS:
UCLA CIVIL ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT AND
UCSD STRUCTURAL ENGINEERING SCHOLARSHIP FUND

Emily Guglielmo, SE
Martin/Martin, Inc.
In an effort to "Pay It Forward," SE University is happy to announce our "SEU Speaker Inspires" program in which our speakers can designate a charity/organization of their choice for SE University to make a donation to help improve our world.

In November 2015, Emily Guglielmo, SE, from Martin/Martin, Inc., gave a talk on Clarifying Frequently Misunderstood Seismic Provisions for SE University. She chose the UCLA Civil Engineering Department (www.cee.ucla.edu), where she earned her bachelor's degree in civil engineering, for the donation of the month.

Emily said the following about UCLA Civil and Environmental Engineering, "UCLA CEE gave me an excellent background in civil engineering and a launching pad to specializing in structures. The professors were excellent mentors who helped guide me through college and into the field of engineering."
Dave K. Adams,  SE
BWE

In February 2016, Dave K. Adams, SE, from BWE, gave a talk on Ethics for Structural Engineers: Lessons in Negligence and Incompetence for SE University. He chose the University of California, San Diego (UCSD) Structural Engineering Scholarship Fund (https://giveto.ucsd.edu/ - giving option 2337), for the donation of the month. This fund assists undergraduate students studying structural engineering in the Jacobs School of Engineering.

Dave chose UCSD for his SEU Speaker Inspires donation because he would like to help make it possible for more students to attend UCSD and study structural engineering.

Thank you, Emily and Dave, for helping structural engineers with your SE University sessions, and for your designation of the UCLA Civil Engineering Department and UCSD Structural Engineering Scholarship Fund as SEU Speaker Inspires Organizations!
