LearnDESIGN VERIFICATION CHECKLIST: WIND LOADING -
COMPLIMENTARY COPY TO THE FIRST 25 PEOPLE TO EMAIL US

In the September 2015 SE University session on Clarifying Frequently Misunderstood Wind Provisions, Emily Guglielmo, SE, from Martin/Martin, Inc., provided helpful information on Wind Provisions, including key items to consider during the design process. Some of these items included proper classification of buildings (open, partially enclosed, or enclosed), proper incorporation of uplift into the design, and checks that should be made for drift.

As a complement to this session, SE University has compiled a "Design Verification Checklist: Wind Loading" to assist structural engineers in determining or checking wind loading for a given project. The one-page checklist ... read the full article on the SE University Blog

The first 25 people to email [email protected] will receive a copy of the "Design Verification Checklist: Wind Loading" at no charge!

Innovate CHOOSING THE PROPER WIND LOAD PROCEDURE {VIDEO}

Are you familiar with the different wind load methods available in the ASCE 7-10 Code? Would a reference guide be helpful in determining which method should be used on your projects?

During the September 2015 SE University session, Clarifying Frequently Misunderstood Wind Load Provisions, Emily Guglielmo, SE, from Martin/Martin Inc., identified which wind load method(s) are available for various building classifications (enclosed, simple diaphragms, building height, etc). The information was presented in highlighted flowcharts referencing specific chapters and parts in the ASCE 7-10 Code. InspireSEU SPEAKER INSPIRES - ORGANIZATION OF THE MONTH: BRIDGES TO PROSPERITY

Emily Guglielmo, SE, Martin/Martin, Inc.
In an effort to "Pay It Forward," SE University is happy to announce our "SEU Speaker Inspires" program in which our speakers can designate a charity/organization of their choice for SE University to make a donation to help improve our world.

In September 2015, Emily Guglielmo, SE, from Martin/Martin, Inc., gave a talk on Clarifying Frequently Misunderstood Wind Provisions for SE University. She chose Bridges to Prosperity (http://www.bridgestoprosperity.org/) for the donation of the month.

Emily said this about her choice, "Bridges to Prosperity believes that every person has a right to safe access and has engineered innovative, scalable approaches to act on that belief. As an engineer, it's inspiring to see other engineers using their passion for the profession to implement real change in the world."

Thank you, Emily, for helping structural engineers with your SE University session, and for your designation of Bridges to Prosperity as our SEU Speaker Inspires Organization of the Month!

CongratsSTATES WITH UPCOMING LICENSE RENEWALS

It's not too early to start thinking about license renewals through December 2015 - start earning hours now to avoid the last minute rush (of course, if you find yourself needing last minute hours, we can help with recorded sessions from our SE University Session Archives).

Louisiana (September 30th, Some Engineers)

Pennsylvania (September 30th, All Engineers)

Colorado (October 31st, All Engineers)

Michigan (October 31st, Some Engineers)

Illinois PE (November 30th, All Engineers)

States with license renewals for all engineers on December 31st:

Alabama

North Carolina

Alaska

Ohio

Maine

Washington

Mississippi

States with license renewals for some engineers on December 31st:

Arkansas

New Mexico

NextSessCOMING NEXT TO SE UNIVERSITY -
UNDERSTANDING LOAD PATHS

On October 14th we will be welcoming Carol Drucker, SE, PE, from Drucker Zajdel Structural Engineers, Inc., to present Understanding Load Paths. This session will be held from 12:30 - 2:00 pm EDT.

Load paths are essential to understand in structural analysis as well as connection design. This SE University session will review the most common mistakes made in assuming load paths, and provide suggestions on how they can be avoided. Load paths for gravity and lateral systems for steel framed buildings will be reviewed, as well as the load paths for connections. The load path of transfer forces will also be highlighted in this session.

Handouts and registration emails for this session will be sent to SE University companies on Friday, October 9th.

To learn more about subscribing to SE University, please contact either Lisa Willard at (805) 482-8436 ([email protected]) or Brian Quinn at (616) 546-9420 ([email protected]).

Thank you for reading our Learn, Innovate, Excel Newsletter - we hope you found this information useful. If there are any questions we can answer, please do not hesitate to contact us by phone or email.
